Hi, I uploaded a color font. It is supposed to be beads, so it has a round outline and a black letter in the middle. For some reason it is showing up as black circles instead? I really need help here to expedite content creation as I am currently having to drag images around.
Unfortunately, Express does not offer support for color fonts at the moment, which leads to these fonts being rendered using fallback outlines in black and white. This means that when the font's intended color elements cannot be displayed, the fallback version does not accurately represent the design, potentially causing visual discrepancies or loss of detail in the rendered text.
Based on the O-SVG icon displayed in Adobe Illustrator's font menu, my guess is that Trading Eras is an OpenType-SVG color font. There are a few different color font formats in existence, and browsers don't always support all of them. You can open ChromaCheck in your default browser to see which color font formats it supports. You can also check this caniuse page to get an idea of which browser versions support OpenType-SVG.
When a browser cannot display any of the color information stored in the font, it defaults to displaying the standard black and white outlines that the font may contain. In Trading Eras' case it seems that those outlines are solid circles/ovals/beads.
My understanding is that COLRv0 is the color font format with the broadest support across browsers. If you're able to obtain Trading Eras in that format, I would upload that font instead.
I haven't heard of this issue before. Have you installed the font and used it any other apps on the system? I'm not sure if the issue is related to the font being in color or something else. If you would be willing to share the font with me, I can try reproducing the issue and then report it to our developers. I'll send you a private message.
