  • Issue summary: Ive created a video file and whenever i open it so i can edit it, it will open and let me work in peace, but at a random moment it will show a “Recovering file” pop-up modal and after loading, it shows a “file recovered”, when i press continue, it will loop back to “recovering file” over and over

  • Product & version: Adobe Express - mobile app

  • Platform: Device - iOS

  • Steps to reproduce:
  1. Opening the application.
  2. Selecting one of my recent files (which is a video file project with pics, audio that can be 30 sec to 1 min long, and stickers per frame)
  3. The file will open, but at times it will show “Recovering file” modal and it will load and show “File recovered” and when i press “Continue”  it loops back to “Recovering file” over and over

  • Expected result: open the project and edit it without seeing the modal/pop-up

  • Actual result: seeing the “Recovering file” modal/pop-up loop

    Hi @Thabiso!

We heard back from our engineering team — the "Recovering file" loop appears to be triggered when the app runs low on memory. Here are a few things to try:

    1. Close any other apps running in the background on your device before opening the project
    2. As soon as the X appears in the layers panel on the right, close it
    3. As soon as the chevron appears on the timeline, minimize it

These should help reduce memory usage and hopefully break the loop.

Our engineer has also offered to take a look at the file directly. Could you share the project link with edit access via DM? Make a duplicate copy first, then open the original and click Share > Who has access > Anyone > Can edit and send me the link privately.

    Hi @Thabiso

Thank you for such a thorough bug report! The screen recording and detailed steps are super helpful.

A couple of things to try in the meantime:

    1. Duplicate the project from the homepage before opening it — sometimes working from a duplicate can break the loop
    2. Try opening on a different device or the web version at https://new.express.adobe.com to see if the loop is specific to your iOS device

    Could you also share:

    • What iPhone model and iOS version you're on?
    • What version of Adobe Express you have installed? (App Store > your account > Purchased)

I'll pass your report and recording along to our engineering team in the meantime.

    Rose
