Zoom selected not holding

Every time I click on text, the zoom shifts to a larger size. It's incredibly frustrating to be constantly clicking between text boxes and the zoom options, especially when trying to adjust something a small amount, only to have the whole text box jump to a new position in the document. Can this be fixed so the zoom size can be locked in place?
