Linux issue with sbscooker - missing thumbnails - missing libGLU.so

Hi, I'm encountering a bug with a steam version of the Substance Designer, most thumbnails in the Library are missing. After some time I was able to figure out the cause, it's a missing dependency. To generate thumbnails SD uses sbscooker which depends on libGLU.so and libGLU does not ship with the SD. This can be fixed by providing the required file but it's not an ideal solution.

I'm using flatpak version of the steam which does not have access to system libraries, everything is contained within the flatpak. Given that libGLU is the only missing dependency I belive this is a bug and it should be shipped with the software.

Turns out that crashing with latest flatpak version of steam may be related to either AMD or Mesa drivers. For unrelated reasons I've switched from AMD 6800XT/Mesa to 2080Ti/Nvidia and Substance Designer no longer crashes. I wasn't able to test AMD proprietary drivers so I'm not sure what was the cause. The original issue ( missing libglu ) still remains.

Hi! Thank you for getting back to me about this. ldd output is quite long and I'm not seeing any way to add an attachment so here is a pastebin link. This is with libglu added manually, removing libglu will make ldd display "libGLU.so.1 => not found". I've tried running Substance Designer without libglu again and it worked but as before I was missing thumbnails. Without libglu I'm getting this error in the console window.

It is also worth nothing that Substance Designer won't work at all with the latest flatpak version of steam. It just crashes on start and I wasn't able to figure out why. Let me know if you need more info.

Hello,

In fact I'll continue the discussion here :).

We don't ship libGLU (and some other low-level libraries) alongside Designer because there would be a high likelihood of conflicts with the one present on the system of our users. However I find it intriguing that you have the issue with `sbscooker` but not Designer itself; could you please run `ldd` on Designer within the flatpak environment and post the results here?

Best regards,

Luc
