Unable to use Japanese text

I recently installed Premier on iPad and trying to make a video for my YouTube channel. But I’m having hard time with adding texts because I cannot add Japanese texts. The text feature itself seems working fine because I can add English texts but whenever I add Japanese, it makes a blank space and doesn't show anything.

I'm using Premiere for iPhone and iPad, which is a free version of Premiere Pro. I'd appreciate if anyone has a solution.

Hello Peter,

It worked! I selected 'koho' and it didn't erase them. I also tried disconnecting the physical keyboard and it also worked! i prefer to type in keyboard but this is better than nothing. Thank you for helping!

Hello Caroline,

I tried using Noto Sans Kannada but it didn't work. I tried other Noto Sans but they all gave me the dame problem. It works exactly like the video I shared in previous post.

Thank you

Karen

@Karen3725208530za Thank you for sharing the details. We were able to reproduce the issue using an attached keyboard to an iPad. Do you have a physical keyboard attached?  Will work on addressing this.

In the meantime, here are a couple of workarounds that might help:

  • Use the soft keyboard — the “return” key becomes “確定” even before the current typing characters are committed.
  • If using the physical keyboard, try selecting “Koho” from the suggestion list instead of pressing “return.”

Hope this helps!

Hello Peter,

I'm currently on iOS 18.6.2, and using the recent version of iPad Air.

I didn't see any Japanese font on my fonts section unless there is one written in English.

I tried adding screen recording here. I hope this link works but let me know if it doesn't.

Thank you,

Karen

Hey Karen,

I looked up what fonts support Japanese characters, and found that Noto Sans can support them. I saw "Noto Sans Kannada" when you were scrolling in your screen recording. Does that font give you the result you're looking for?

Sorry for the frustration, happy to help.

Hi there @Karen3725208530za ! Thanks for reaching out and for trying out Premiere. I’m really sorry to hear you're having trouble adding Japanese text. If not, heard this report from other Japanese users so it be helpful to get some additional detail details about your setup. Can you please help with the following information?

  1. iOS version – What version of iOS are you currently running on your iPad and iPhone?
  2. Device models – Which iPad and iPhone models are you using?
  3. Font used – Are you using a specific font when adding Japanese text, or just the default one?

If possible, I would be great to get a screen recording, or at least a screen captures showing this specific issue. Thank you in advance!
