All my custom Presets are gone

Hello,

Media Encoder 2023 automatically installed itself on my laptop which caused all my custom conversion Presets I created and use for my workflows seem to be gone. Is that true or is there a way I can find them somewhere?

Thanks.

We hear you and we are working on it. My posts were intended to help short term. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Well, Ecki from the AME Team, investigate harder! I suppose you do not realise how unreliable and hated (by creatives and project managers) the whole Adobe universe has become. Can you imagine what it takes to recreate a whole stack of presets for publishing? From now on I will NEVER EVER AGAIN save any of my presets in Applications: for encoding, for shortcuts (notoriously lost on every upd for AE), for workspaces. We are moving back to 00s when we did everything ourselves. The old (experienced) devs are moving out and newbs are effn things up repeatedly.

Every Adobe update is dreaded like a hurracane, for which we have to prep and make backups for.

Thanks for the suggestion. It was half successful. The Presets came over, but the Watch Folders did not.

We totally get it. This is clearly a bug. I am very happy that the workaround worked for you!

Thanks Ecki,

I tried the workaround you suggest and it works. My presets from AME version CC22 work in version CC23.

It would be great if new versions of Adobe software ask user during firs run if he wants to migrate his settings, presets etc. and make this process automatic. Copying files manually makes me feel I am back in early 90's.

Thanks!

If you duplicate 22.0 folder in documents folder (<user>/Documents/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/) and rename it to 23.0 you should be able to restore all prefs including the watch folders. Make a backup first, just in case.

Hi Ecki,

I had the same issue. Luckily I was able to download most of my presets from the Cloud, but I believe your solution would've worked, for the most part. That said, I had many "Watch Folders" set up previous to the update which didn't migrate to AME CC23. Is there a specific location where the Watch Folders info/presets are kept?

Thanks!

This is Ecki from the AME Team. We are very sorry for the inconveniences. The team is currently investigating the issue. Can you please check at <user>/Documents/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/22.0/Presets/ if the files are still present? You could copy over the files to the current documents folder if they are still present. Please let us know your findings.

I've had my presets lost with every single update. Why can't Adobe somehow manage to transfer these presets over?

ok I've managed to restore Media Encoder CC21 with all the presets from TimeMachine. I hope this can work for you too. Also I switched off the 'auto-update' option in Creative Cloud preferences. It was turned on for some reason, very annoying.
