Export bug MP3 Adobe Premiere and Media Encoder

Good day Adobe,

Ever since the 2023 update, and it took us a while to discover, when we export MP3s at 16K, the encoding automatically ups to 32K. Whether we export the MP3s manually or use a preset (old or new), from Premiere Pro or send over to Media Encoder, the 16 kbps automatically exports as 32 kbps as reflected in both file size increase and what the files properties detail tab shows. Furthermore, this is reproducable on multiple  workstations.

Example screenshots attached.

The workaround for now would be to re-export in Au.  Au forces a sample rate convert to export at 16Kbps.

Was able to repro the issue and filed a bug. I'll keep you posted.

Very sorry for your issues and the large delay. I will get in touch with our Formats experts.

I too have this exact problem. I need to get the file size under 25mb so I export audio from a video as an .mp3, set to mono and 24kbps. The estimated file size is 22mb but ends up being 29mb. Media info shows that it was transcoded at 32kbps.

The OP posted this 8 months ago. Hey, Adobe, what's going on?

Good day,

This format endocing bug has been reproduced on a PC outside of the normal working area, where no old presets were transferred. Basically, Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, when exporting 16K, 18K, 20K, 24K, all encode to a minimum of 32K, as shown in file properties and reflected by file size.

The workaround (until the bug is fixed) is an easy solution. Simply take a higher 32K+ MP3 and re-export through Audtion to 16K. Audition is not effected by the same export bug as Premiere Pro and Media Encoder.
