Import Movie Fails

Media Encoder Versions 23.0.1 (Build 1) and 23.1 (Build 59) BETA

Premiere Pro Version 23

macOS Monterey 12.6.1

Mac Studio 32GB

Media Encoder and Premiere Pro are unable to import a video file that QuickTime and Final Cut Pro are able to import.

Media Encoder returns this error:

Problem.mov could not be imported. Could not open source file.

Please check that file exists with correct permissions.

Premiere Pro returns this error:

We were unable to open the file on disk.

For the file in question, Finder reports the Codecs as AAC, dish, Timed Metadata, HEVC. Note the unusual appearance of “dish”. That is the only thing unusual about the video.

Did you try transcoding in AME directly? If it fails, can you share the file? I can private message you the instructions in this forum.

Hi, the same problem with "dish" codec in cinematic files occurs in Adobe Lightroom Classic (13.4, Camera Raw 16.4). I'm on a Mac Studio running macos 14.5

All other videos appear to import quite well except for these.

This was recorded in the Camera app in iOS 16, with no special settings out of the ordinary. At the time, I recorded a dozen videos in quick succession, switching to Cinematic mode once. I have a suspicion this "dish" codec was injected into the metadata of the first (non-Cinematic) clip that was recorded after I switched OUT of Cinematic. However, I haven't been able to reproduce it since. Below is the metadata from the problem movie file.

(Apology for the late reply.)

Hello,

Can you tell me if this problem is with a specific file from the iPhone? Or with all files? Also, did you record this file using the iPhone's camera app or with an app you got from the App Store? And, regardless of what app you used, can you please tell us exactly what settings you used in the app? We've not been able to duplicate this problem, so it would be helpful to know what your are doing.

Thanks!

Fergus
