Link issue between Encoder and AE

I've had this happen on multiple software versions over the years trying to send an After Effects Comp to Media Encoder. Media Encoder opens when I click, "Add to Media Encoder", but it never links the comp there to be able to export. Even tried manually "add source" from Media Encoder, but it gets hung up trying to connect.

I tried closing both apps and reopening, but same issue. I don't really want the solve to be, "just restart your system" becuase that's just a waste of my time and resources. But I'll give it a go and see if that works.

I'm using: AE 2025 v25.5.0 (Build 4) and Media Encoder 2025 v25.3 (Build 73)

Hi @Jacobson Made

This sounds frustrating.

Try updating Media Encoder such that the version number of Premiere Pro (25.5) matches the version number of Media Encoder (25.5) that you're running.   Be sure to maintain that going forward as closely as possible.  For example, if you ever install a prior version of Premiere Pro like 24.6 then make sure the version of Media Encoder that you're running with it is also 24.6.  Or, when version 26.x become available, make sure Pr 26.1 is used with Me 26.1.

I'd also double-check that you're not using special characters in your folder names or filenames.

Update: Yup, restarting solved the problem. Wish that wasn't the case, especially in last minute client updates.
