Problem creating ProRes 422 Proxy Files from Slog-3 without changing colour.

When I am trying to create proxy files (Footage shot on FX9: s-log 3, XAVC-I) The proxies have a lut applied. I would prefer for my proxies to look identical to my raw footage.

When right-clicking the file 'Source Settings" does not open.

Any help is appreciated with this

Hi Fergus,

Yes, that works perfectly.

Thank you for taking the time to help me with it.

Brilliant!

Thanks

Hi Emmet,

I see what's going on now. Media Encoder is reading the S-Gamut3 color space of the FX9's MXF files. Premiere Pro does the same thing but in Premiere Pro, it's possible to override that and force the color space to Rec. 709. In the current version of Media Encoder, that's not possible.

The next version of Media Encoder will give you the option to select the files in the queue, right mouse button click, select Interpret Footage and override the color space. That way, when you encode the proxies, the footage will appear flat and you can apply a LUT in Premiere Pro the way you'd like to.

In the short term, I would suggest creating the proxies from within Premiere Pro. So:
1. Import the FX9 into Premiere Pro.

2. Override the color space (Interpret Footage > Color Space Override > Rec. 709)

3. Use Premiere Pro's option to create the proxies.

Let me know if that works for you. I'm happy to get on a call too.

Regards,

Fergus

Hi Fergus,

I am having the issue with Media Encoder.

My usual workflow is:

Shoot on FX9 (S-Log 3 Cine)

Ingest the footage using Catalyst Browse (The raw files are log/Flat looking)

Transcode the footage in Media Encoder (Creating ProRes 422 Proxy Files)

Edit using the Proxy Files.

I like editing with the flat, log footage - so I do not add a lut or colour correction when creating my proxies.

Recently Media Encoder has been adding colour correction and I am unable to turn it off.

I am using version 22.5 of media encoder (Though I have also downloaded the Beta Version last week and still had the same issue)

It seems to only be an issue with the FX9 footage, as my FS7 footage and A7S footage does not have the problem)

Any help is appreciated. Let me know if you would like more info.

Thanks

Emmet

Hi Emmet,

Can you give me a bit more info? What version of Premiere Pro are you using? Also, can you tell me how the footage looks when you first import it? It is flat, log footage?

Thanks,

Fergus
