Transcoding Prores 422 Mov to H264 Mp4 (match source high bitrate) simply does not work

And this has been bugging for years.

On Intel Macs and My M1 Max 16" Macbook pro.

AME 2021, 2022 both do not finish packaging the file resulting in a 51kb file.

Generally if I go back to 2020 it will work properly but now I can't download that version.

Hi @bmartin219
please can you check, that you do not have the AME MediaBrowser open in the export directory and not have a Finder window with a selection to the exported file during export? The exporters handling the encoding finishing different. If the file is already in use, e.g. by the mediabrowser or finder, it could be that we cannot write some data and failing, because the same file is already read/write locked by another task. That could be server driver and format depending.

Here's the get info page on the shared volume. Format is Appleshare and requires my login to access the drive.

It's bizarre that MOV and general editing works but this only interferes with mp4...

Hey Warren,

Thanks for following up on this.

I believe all of this has to do with server / shared volume permissions - or some way it is communicating with adobe apps.

I am working off of a Shared Volume Synology Server. I need to get with my IT guy to get the model and formatting etc of everything so I will follow back up.

But long story short: I dragged this MOV file onto my desktop, and transcoded it in AME from MOV to MP4 back onto my desktop (so avoiding server entirely) and it worked perfectly. So it must have something to do with server permissions or somwething like that.

-----------------------

I went through this process again to make sure original problem persists and it does.

So then I just tried this ^ : Right-click - Encode files, and it encodes perfectly.

@bmartin219

Here are some troubleshooting steps to review.

When macOS prompted you to grant access to Adobe Media Encder, did you choose "OK"?
Here is a sample of what that looks like for Premiere Pro.

What format is the "Current Projects" drive?  HFS+, APFS?, ExFAT?  FAT32?

If you run First Aid with macOS Disk Utility, do any errors come back for "Current Projects"?  If so, does First Aid repair them?

If you copy "00-55-27-12 SHOT 1 V1 no fisheye.mov" to Macintosh HD (to the Desktop, for example) does that transcode to MP4 as expected when MacintoshHD is also set as the destination?

This sounds like something specific to your workstation configuration or source footage.

I transcode ProRes to H264 using Match Source - High Bitrate daily on multiple macOS and Windows machines.

What happens if you right-click the ProRes clip in the Finder and choose Encode Selected Video and then select H264 or H265 in the options dialog box?

The 51kb looks more like nothing was written and that accross all versions (2021/22/23) while working in 2020. If possible please share the original MOV file for reproduction together with the Export and Error Log files (Menu->File->Show Log/Show Errors) to see if there are some more information or any error message in it. I assume that other files are working correct, right? The sample image shows the ...no fisheye.mp4 with a thumbnail.

If I choose another preset - youtube 720, vimeo 1080, etc same result - an unfinished file that either plays only the first half or doesn't load at all, again with same 51kbish small file size.
