Audio recording and playback freezes when I click off window

So I have a PreSonus Audiobox USB96 interface with an AKG P220 mic. I have multiple monitors and when I record I use the other screens to hold my script I'm reading. But then I click over to edit the script or click onto a chrome tab to find sound effects and then come back audition won't playback or record. I KNOW the fix is to unplug the interface and plug it back it in and it's fine. I can also go to audio Hardware and change it to something else closing that preference window then changing it back. That became the more annoying way so I've been unplugging and plugging the interface in because it's the simplest but sometimes even that I have to do multiple times in like 5 min when I'm working on something intricate and it's not convenient by any means.

So now you know what I’m dealing with, how might I fix it to streamline my work. Also this is a new thing. Last year I didn't have this issue.
