Audition 26.0.0.56 Won't open 25.3.0.71 Sessions

Returned to work from vacation to find Audition had updated itself while I was away. New version is 26.0.0.56 Build. When I try to open sessions I produced in Audition 25.3.0.71, Audition comes up with the Can’t find all Media pop-up and wants me to link to the Media. When I try to link media (even if I manually try to link the media by right-clicking on the clip and selecting Link Media, it doesn’t work. I cannot seem to open old sessions with the new 2026 version.

In my workplace, (radio station) I have to save all sessions to a OneDrive, accessible to all producers across the country, so anyone can work on anything. I have not tried to open an old session from my local HDD. (yet) I have reverted back to Audition 2025 so I can complete my work. Audition 2025 still opens everything normally… even from the Company OneDrive.

I am having the same issue. I save session files, just as I have before and get an error message with no way to fix or open. I just have to rebuild the file.

I rolled back to V25.0.3.71 and turned off auto updates in Creative Cloud. Think I’m going to be on that version for a long time.

Something else happened that is making me update this thread. A few weeks ago, Audition again updated, but to v25.6.4 (not 26.0) and the same issue was happening in that version. I had to roll back to 25.3 and turn off automatic updates.

The issue doesn’t seem to be an incompatibility between v25 & v26, but the loading of sessions is borked. (at least with my machine) When loading a session (typically with more than 2 files in it) Audition will not import some of the files. There does not seem to be a way to get these files to load into the session, you cannot re-link the media.

I haven’t yet heard from anybody at Adobe about this issue.

    Here is a thought…
When Audition opens the sesx it looks first for the media using the absolute path as written into the sesx file
If it can’t find the media at that location it then looks in the relative path as recorded in the sesx file.
So I’m thinking open the sesx that doesn’t relink media in a text editor like Notepad and scroll to the bottom of the sesx file where you will see the files listed
Have a look at each of the entries and verify that the file exists at the absolute path as indicated in the sesx and also see if it exists at the relative path (ie relative to the sesx location)

@SuiteSpot I had a similar thought yesterday, I’ll get into that in a minute. But looking at the .sesx file in Notepad, the file exists in the Absolute Path listed in the .sesx, which is in the session’s Imported Files folder. This session happens to be a copy of another in the same folder on OneDrive (created by using Save As) - I had to do versions for different radio stations, with different VO in each, so made copies of the first completed session, to replace a couple of lines in. This session opens fine in my older v25.3.0.71, but fails to open three audio files when using v2026. Link Media button is greyed out, so I hit OK. Session loads, but uses dummy clips for the files that didn’t load. Right clicking on the dummy clips and selecting Link Media brings up the same Opening Files window telling me there’s a General Import Failure, and Link Media button is greyed out.

Now… yesterday, I had the thought that maybe the issue was with the path being too long (with OneDrive, those path lengths grow quickly) so carried out an experiment. I saved a copy to my Desktop, which would shorten the path considerably, as I was moving the session closer to the root of my OneDrive, removing a number of folders from the path. Long story short, in order to get v2026 to link to those files, (they were still referencing absolute paths in the .sesx file) I had to open the session in v2025 so the session could find the files, and hit Ctrl-S to save the .sesx with the new absolute path. Only then would it open in v2026.

To confuse things even further, I asked copilot to examine the path lengths of two copies of my session-the one in it’s original folder which opens in v2025 but not v2026, and all paths were longer than 260 characters. I did a save-as of that session to my desktop to shorten the paths, and none were over the limit. I opened that new session in v2026 and it opened. This confused me, I thought there was a version where this wouldn’t open in v2026, but there’s so many copies & openings in two different Audition versions, I’m not sure what’s happening!

I’m now starting to think v2026 will only tolerate file paths shorter than v2025 does.

I need to stop think about this for a while… good thing it’s an extra-long weekend!

    Just a thought
I’ve seen a couple of weird things lately which may or may not be related so here’s what I’m thinking.
Can you copy the media from one of your OneDrive sessions to a folder on OneDrive where the path does not contain a space and try relinking to that folder?

SuiteSpot: I’m just discovering this is not happening with EVERY session produced in Audition 2025. Took a bit to find a session that would not open in Audition 2026.

When I found one, I downloaded it to a local hard drive and tried to open the session with 2026, and it still failed, link button still greyed out. I then renamed the Session folder to just “TEST”, and the folder path to the .sesx file was “Q:\! PRODUCTION B\_PRODUCTION\2026-02-FEBRUARY\COMMERCIALS\TEST” and it too failed to open in 2026.

I copied the “TEST” folder to to my OneDrive Root, the path is “C:\Users\MikeXXXX\OneDrive - XXX XXXX 2\OneDrive - XXXX XX\TEST” (I’ve XX’d out some words for Privacy/Security) and it opened.

So, not an issue with spaces in the path, and it’s not a OneDrive issue, since it was happening on the local drive as well. (The .sesx still had links to the OneDrive files)

The sessions which are failing to open are still in their original folders on OneDrive, and Audition seems to be failing in following the path’s to them, even though they are correct. Also, with the Link Media button being disabled, I can’t re-link any files.

Thanks SuiteSpot for helping with this situation. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to try!

I think I see your problem

A quick read here may help but in short there are illegal characters and there are characters you probably should avoid when doing things web related and I’m guessing that exclamation mark may be something to look at

To add to this situation, I copied the folder of a session that would not open in Audtition 2026 to my desktop from OneDrive… thinking it was an issue with filepath length coming from OneDrive. I still get the error in Audition 2026, but Audition 2025 will open the session. Also note that the Link Media button is greyed out.

I see the ‘general import failure’ so if it opens in 2025 then this needs to be brought to the devs attention as a bug
