Audition 26.0 freeze

Audition completely unusable. It launches, displays the Learn Panel, and then freezes within 5–10 seconds. The UI becomes unresponsive: Menu items turn gray, the Learn Panel shows a blue highlight border, and the application stops, freezes my entire system & requires a hard reboot. This happens with every single launch, even after “clean” reinstalls and resets!

I have fully uninstalled Audition, Creative Cloud, and all other Adobe apps. I have manually deleted all Adobe folders in Program Files, Program Files (x86), AppData, (Local and Roaming) removed leftover CEP, CEF, and WebView2 components, and reinstalled cleanly.

Additionally, I have deleted all workspace files (except a custom “NoLearn” workspace created to attempt launching without the Learn Panel,) and edited AuditionPrefs.xml to disable it and set NoLearn as the default. I have deleted recovery files after each crash, and even attempted Shift‑launch to bypass previous sessions.

Further, I have renamed Learn Panel extension folders, added a “dummy index.html” to replace the Learn Panel content, disabled and re‑enabled CEPHtmlEngine, renamed the global CEP folder to force regeneration, and verified WebView2 runtime installation. I’ve reboot MANY times, tested with and without peripherals connected, and “believe” I have confirmed no GPU, audio device, or driver conflicts

Despite all of this, Audition still freezes immediately after launch, always at the moment the Learn Panel attempts to initialize. HELP!

Hi, AU26 is a nightmare, it is costing me hours trying to sort out the problems, repeating the jobs and time with the customer support peole that are helpful and trying but cannot solve that this unreliable release freezes and recreates the files by itself, inserting others into the working file, cutting sections and/or creating a new one repeating a section for 29 minutesh. Or just not playing the sound at all after saving the files. Too many issues, it is costing me lots of working hours and free time, and sleep time, so I decided to uninstall it.

Today, the customer support person, tried but there was no solution. Their marketing department offered me a 7 days discount as good will. I did not ask for it, only to recover or restore my file but offering that discount would not compensate the working time and its monetary value, the lack of sleep, plus having to reschedule interviews and the embarrassement of having to do so.
Please, only release reliable programmes, you should withdraw Au26.

OMG… Adobe’s developers have HOSED Audition!  For the first time I can remember (and I’ve been using it since it was Syntrillum Cool Edit Pro 1), it’s unstable, crashes, screen won’t refresh.   It’s now complete garbage!   Makes NO SENSE to pay “rental” on a product that DOESN’T WORK!!   Well.. more reason to switch to Audacity.   It’s FREE, AND it WORKS!!   (Adobe.. you’re seriously pissing me off!   You had not business releasing it until you KNEW it functioned properly!)

… and yet it’s working absolutely fine for me, both on this W10 laptop and the W11 DAW upstairs. So, when it crashes, locate the crash log (see here for details of how to do this with a non-starter) and post the text of it into this thread. Without that, we’ll get nowhere.

Just updated to 26 as well.   Audio files no longer open.  26 hangs for 15 to 20 minutes, then seems to crash.

If you have any hardware connected I’d remove that and see if it boots up successfully, just to rule it out.

I tracked my issue to old midi drivers, which for some reason this week started causing issues (I suspect a windows update has rendered them useless, and the m-audio device I used them for is no longer supported)

I HAVE FOUND THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE (for me anyway) sorry for shouting!! I wonder if it is the case for others too.

I use a Midiman Midisport 2X2 midi interface for additional midi inputs.

Removing the driver for this device fixes the issue.

I got suspicious after finding this post:

I wonder if it affects other legacy midi drivers that other users may be using. It also affected my Reaper boot it turns out.

I’m going to have to find a more up to date midi → usb device I guess, as my trusty midisport box is now a brick I guess :(

OMG, I spent countless hours these past few weeks trying to fix this issue and after reading this post,  all I had to do was pull the USB plug from the back of my midiman and bam! Finally, I can use Audition again! Just in the nick of time, too!

This was the fix for me, too!  I would never have even guessed that the drivers for my Midisport 4 x 4 could have created this problem, especially since both it and AA 26 have run successfully under Win 11 for more than 12 months.

Thank you to @timsheps for the links.

I have had this issue start happening to me today. It’s rendered Audition completely useless. PC user.

It fails to boot, getting stuck on “initializing AuUI”

I’ve tried many times now to uninstall, re-install, remove old version, re-try old versions.

Use CCcleaner to nuke everything it can (and then re-install CC, and again uninstall Audition, as it appeared to not have been nuked) I’ve been through AppData folders to remove adobe and audition related files.

I’ve been through the Task Manager to stop adobe and creative cloud processes prior to running the CCcleaner tool.

I am at my wits end, extremely frustrating as it’s on subscription and now completely unuseable.

I sincerely hope Adobe sort this ASAP, otherwise they will lose another customer - been using it since Cool Edit days :’(

Doing the same for me.   Running on a Dell laptop.. and previous Auditions always worked flawlessly.   After updating to 26, it’s become a BRICK!   Like you, I’ve been using Audition since it was Syntrillium’s Cool Edit Pro.   Have never seen such a unstable BAD version until now.

For, I think, the first time in nearly 15 years of using Audition without problem, I’m seeing this problem of the “freeze”, running version 26 (latest release), Win 11 25H2, i7 14700 CPU, 32 Gb RAM.

Specifically, I was carrying out my usual editing of a church service recording in Waveform View, removing “gaps”, setting levels (different voices, singers etc.), normalizing to -3dB, using iZotope 11 Advanced (to control overall final level) and RX11 Advanced to remove Mouth Clicks (one of the mics is somewhat sensitive and such noises can be intrusive with certain voices), all actions I have taken for several years without problem.  This proceeded as expected, until I came to apply the Effect Rack and “Save as ...” the resulting file.  The saving process seemed to start normally but stopped at approximately 25%.

Despite waiting at least 10 minutes for the process to resume, nothing happened, the screen went opaque and the only “resolution” was to use Task Manager to close the app.

Any and all subsequent attempts to open it, whether I chose the option to Continue, Delete or Later the “session” which Audition said was not completed previously, stopped at the Initialising AuUI screen (I assume this means the point at which the app was attempting to create the User Interface).

So, I took the “nuclear” option of completely removing Audition (my only CC app) and used the CC App Uninstaller tool to completely remove that core app.

I then downloaded and reinstalled the CC App and Audition, attempted to run AU and the first start-up failed at exactly the same point again (Initialising AuUI).

I checked that the drivers for my RTX4060 GPU were fully updated, no change in AU behaviour!

Because I maintain very regular back-ups of my C:\ drive I could return to an Incremental Back-Up created just before I began work on this particular audio file.  I carried out the restore operation (which returned CC app and AA to what they had been before all the problems started) opened AU without problem and began editing again.  Within a very few minutes (i.e., NOT whilst attempting to save the edited file this time) the app “froze” again (spinning blue circle) and remained in that state for at least 20 minutes (until I once more used Task Manager to force-close it).

Any subsequent attempt to re-open the app caused the same “stop” point as before “Initialising AuUI”.

Any and all advice and suggestions for how to resolve this will be very gratefully received!

Since this problem is also occurring for me in the latest Beta release (freezing at the point of Initialising AuUI), how do we “draw the attention of the developers” to it.

At the moment I’m paying a monthly subscription for a product that will not run on my computer so not a happy bunny!  Is the audbugs@adobe.com email address still in use?  If so, what details do we need to send?

    TIA

As far as I’m aware, audbugs@adobe.com still works, although I don’t know how it’s monitored. I suspect that the Audition beta community gets looked at more than this one does, although since Durin left, it’s not been too clear as to what the Audition communication lines are - it’s almost like they don’t want us to know...

Charlie Wilde have you had any luck resolving this yet? I’m in the same boat.

Audition 3.0 doesn’t have the HUD - you have to upgrade if you want it.
