Audition hangs up when opening a file

To save time, I have a simple 2-track stereo file saved as 'Audition Record' to quickly set up a record session. I open, record, rename, and move on.  

In the last couple of days, the file hangs up when I attempt to open it. In fact, it hasn't successfully opened before I am forced to exit the session to get some work done. 

This file sits in a temp folder on my desktop. My workaround has been to open a different file in that temp folder (of a successfuly recorded file), rename it, record, and move on. 

Any idea what's going on? This has just popped up as an issue.
