Input levels change dramatically when switching from multitrack view to waveform view

Every time I double click a track on the multitrack view to edit it in the waveform view, and then try to record, the input level halves or is reduced even more. If I go back out and then go back in to record again, the input level gets even smaller. This bug is HUGE and is ruining my workflow.

Since Audition always records faithfully whatever it is sent from your sound device, then the issue here is going to be related to that in some way. For a start, are you using a Mac or a PC?

I figured it out: Audition randomly reset my inputs (this happened after I called into support as Cloud was not downloading updates, and they had me reinstall it). So I had to find the correct input under Audio Channel Mapping. This is frustrating as there is no way to know these resets occur unless you go looking for them.
