Losing sound in Adobe Audition

This happens only when I’m using playback inside the parametric or graphic equalizer. For a few minutes it works fine, then there is a blip-like sound and the playback goes silent. Waveform disappears from inside the EQ, but the waveform remains in the main viewing window and the playhead still moves. The audio plays fine elsewhere, including in Audacity. This doesn't effect the audio for anything else on my computrer. If I leave everything alone for 20 minutes or so, then try Audition again, it works…until I try to EQ again.

Hardware input/output settings are correct.

I installed a newer version of Audition but the same thing occurs.

Any ideas??
