Markers inserted into selected track on multitrack

Over the past few months I've noticed that when a track is selected in Multitrack and the 'Marker' hotkey is hit, the marker is inserted into the actual wav within the multitrack and not as a simple marker on the multitrack .sesx file.

In addition, when recording in multitrack, if a track is accidently selected and the marker hotkey is triggered, no marker is inserted into the wav or multitrack at all preventing the mark from being noted. This is problematic when recording long shows, requiring my edit team a 'full listen' for editing as opposed to 'editing at markers'.

Is there a setting to go back to how it was where marker's are only inserted into the multitrack itself and the selection of an audio track won't impact that?
