Playback head progressively starts to get visually choppy during playback

Over the last few months, when I’m playing through a track, the playback head visually progresses from smooth scrolling to more and more choppy.  It’s starts out fine, then after 3-4 screens-worth of scrolling on the timeline, in my case maybe 20 sec, it slowly gets more and more choppy or laggy.  It’ll look like it’s slightly starting to lag, and progress to the point it looks like it’s jumping 0.5-1 sec increments.  If I switch from multitrack to waveform view then back. It’ll reset to a smooth scroll, then start the process over again.  The same issue occurs in the waveform view.  If I have several tracks in a project, it will immediately start with a choppy scroll, even if all tracks are pre-rendered.  I run Windows 11, have 32GB RAM, and a 14th gen i7 processor 2.8gHz. Audition doesn’t seem to being using an inordinate amount of CPU or memory.

Not sure if there was a windows update that doesn’t jive with the newer versions of Audition?  I used to run v.2022, issues started after upgrading to v.2025.  I’ve tried installing and uninstalling, upgraded to v.2026 and downgraded back to 2025 with no effect.  Would love some insight if anyone else has had this issue.

Two things: Firstly, make sure that your video driver is up to date - that can be quite crucial in getting smooth visuals. Secondly, in Edit>Preferences>General there’s a box that says ‘use hardware acceleration for drawing’. If it’s got a check, take it out - and vice versa. Then try again...

Thank you for your reply. My video drivers are up to date, and unfortunately editing the preferences for hardware acceleration did not fix the issue, both enabling or disabling it.
