Someone please help!! recording is borked since update

I've been using Audition for nearly a year without fail for my intro to voiceover work, mainly recording and teaching myslef how to edit and set up. About 4 or 5 months ago, due to an addition to our family, I had to take down my booth and stop. I got everything back up and running about 30 days (or so) ago, recorded acouple of time without any issues, haven't had much booth time. Now all of a sudden, yesterday, I go in to the booth and my recordings are bork. I can get a good 5ish seconds of recording but the the app just spazzes out, picks up a half second here and there of audio. I can hit record for a couple of minutes and end up with under 5 seconds of absolute garbage. https://youtu.be/aHUaS0p0dLs for example. settings are (under audio hardeware) as follows

Device class: MME

def input: hyperx quadcast (same micI've been using this whole time

def output: headphones (again same as always)

Latency: 500

sample rate: (set to) 48000 Hz

if I change the device class to "WASAPI" I get crystal clear audio but have no way to listen to playback.

I thougth I may be having a hardware issue but everything works as it should in Audacity.

Please Help!!

Thanks to all in advance

It's a little unfortunate that you can't actually select WDM directly from Audition any more, but it's not entirely surprising that it isn't listed. It's not a drive classs or a driver on its own, but a means of sending audio direct from the OS kernel - sort-of integrating the output of Audition into it. And that's what ASIO4ALL does - enables that link that used to be directly available and also provide some useful diagnostics. We used to recommend it quite a bit, but people have also reported difficulties with it on occasions - not sure why. It does provide some of the aggregating facilities of Apple's Core Audio, inasmuch as it's possible, for instance, to use more than one USB mic at once with it (although not desirable, because of the resampling involved). For some reason, it's not a recommended fix but if it works for you, then fine.

I may have solved the issue. Downloaded, installed and set up ASIO4all. It seems to have fixed my issues after a system reboot. I hope this helps anyone who is having same/similar issues!!

Nope, Still borky!

I got one clean recording session then it went back to borked. this is frustration, it was working just fine a few weeks ago and now that I am making time to get back at it I can't.

Steve,

I'm pretty sure I tried multitrack too but I'll try it again tonight after work. When I did multitrack it looked like there was no input selected and wouldn't record. Granted, it was late and I was very tired, I'll give it anouther go ensuring I have settings correct.

Thanks again

This looks like a buffer issue. The best, and most permanent fix is actually to record the way we recommend now - which is in Multitrack view. The reason that this is better is because your recording is written directly to your hard disk as you make it, rather than to a buffer (temp file) store - which is what happens when you record in Waveform view. If the unthinkable happens, you can pretty much recover everything you've recorded in Multitrack view. With Waveform view recording - you're in the lap of the Gods, and generally they aren't very friendly.

All sorts of strange things can happen with the buffer. For a start, its location is rather easily accessed by the OS - and that can be bad news, because it gets priority. The safest thing to do is to relocate the temp file to a new folder of its own, preferably on a different drive to the OS. You can do this in Edit>Preferences>Media and Disk Cache. Don't worry about the secondary temp - almost everybody can run Audition with this set to none.
