I have never had an issue with ACR before.18.3 freezing saying not responding saving files took twenty minutes instead of seconds everything was super laging, when I disabled the GPU acceleration it improved I see on the other pages I am not alone I'm using the most up to date windows, Nvidia drivers ETC: I have a 7950x, 5090, 64GB and NVME drives. Please fix as soon as possible or at least give a link to the previous version which I had no issues with.

Hey Rob - I had to download 18.1.1 from a website called UpToDown (just google it, I’m not sure if I can post direct download links here)… and it worked 100%. I was having the same issues everyone explained below (freezing when applying filters… crashing when zooming in… slow rendering of finer details… etc), and this fixed it immediately. So frustrating.

Just FYI for community manager: When I looked at downloading older version of Camera RAW from UpToDown McAfee flagged a virus threat so I aborted. Can I request that a method for installing previous revs of Camera RAW be integrated into the creative cloud app? Currently I can downgrade and install older versions of PS but not Camera RAW.

Same issue here: After update my computer freezes or lags terribly when opening camera RAW. Launching a mask brush in Camera RAW is the nail in the coffin.

To help us narrow this down, could you please confirm whether the issue started occurring after the recent Photoshop 27.6 update? In the System Info shared by @Nick Setting, it appears an older version of Photoshop is in use, so this detail will help us determine if the update is a contributing factor.

A similar issue has been discussed in the thread below. Please try the build shared on that page and let us know if it helps.

If the issue persists, it would be helpful if you could share the following details:

Exact version of Photoshop and Camera Raw
Steps to reproduce the issue (if consistently reproducible)
Screen recording or screenshots, if possible
System Info file (Help > System Info > Copy and paste it here)
Whether the issue occurs on all images or only specific file types (e.g., large RAW files)

In the meantime, here are a few things you can try:

Check GPU settings: Go to Photoshop > Settings > Camera Raw > Performance (or Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw > Performance on Windows) and ensure your GPU is recognized. Try setting Use GPU for Display to “Custom” and adjust the options to see if performance improves.
Update GPU drivers: Make sure you’re using the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).
Clear Camera Raw cache: In Camera Raw Preferences > Performance, try purging the cache and check if that improves the behavior.

These details will help the team identify the root cause more efficiently.

I also tried uninstalling latest PS version and reloading version from January. Problem went away so seems to indicate new update.

Same issue here, had to switch back to processing in capture one for now. Even when I open one file at the time its impossible to get even a decent preview, un-usable at the moment. Please stop breaking working tools with useless AI-slop update. We are professional, if we can rely on a tool, we replace it.

Same issues - cannot use Camera Raw now - not a happy customer. TOTALLY FREEZES - takes 10 minutes to process a small file after CR editing. Often have to hot boot because it freezes my entire Win11 PC updated drivers

I too have the same issue. It’s primarily caused when enabling “Use Profile Corrections” under the “Optics” section. Nearly unusable if turning that option on. Just happened after updating ACR.

Update: I went back to ACR 18.1.1 and the issue is gone. Definitely a bug with the latest ACR April release.

I also have problems with Camera RAW, in particularly when using the adjustment brush. Photoshop will freeze and spinning wheel of death rotates, while CPU/GPU usage is high. Usually the first time I use the brush on newly opened images this happens, and then when editing a later image it may or may not happen.

Running latest photoshop beta, and latest available camera raw.
