P: Histogram is not visible in the latest ACR but it is visible when using the PS camera raw filter

Just notice something strange following this week's updates: The histogram in Adobe Camera Raw 18.3.1.2580 is not visible, although one can drag a mouse pointer in the blank area and change the luminance. So, it seems to be just not showing. Conversely, when using Photoshop and clicking on the Camera Raw filter, that version of ACR has a visible histogram, with the same functionality as expected.

Updating NVidia drivers to the latest release did not correct the bug.

At least one other user experienced the same bug. His correction was to rollback to 18.3.0

Several users have been able to reproduce this bug and report it in the bug report in the Adobe camera raw forum.

Clearing the ACR cache does not resolve the issue. Nor does resetting GPU support. Nor does updating NVidia graphics drivers.

The only resolution that worked for me (and others) was to rollback ACR to v 18.3.

Hey, @robertb97882933 & @ObiwanJRobi. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Based on the description, this behavior could be unexpected, but I’ve been unable to recreate this.

Please share a video of the issue and the system info from Photoshop Help > System Info. Copy and paste it into a text document, then upload and attach it here.

Please test and confirm if Photoshop (Beta) has an issue. You can get Photoshop (Beta) from the Creative Cloud > Apps tab > Beta Apps section.

    Thanks!

I can’t reproduce this on my Mac either, so if this is a bug, then it is a Windows-only bug.

@robertb97882933 @ObiwanJRobi  I’ve check this on my machine and I can’t reproduce this. I seen the Histrogram in Camera Raw starting from Bridge and if I use it as a filter in Photoshop.

I’ve already install the latest Camera Raw version and also the NVidia driver version 596.36 (Studio version).

Please try to reset the ACR preferences.

If this doesn’t help provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into a text file and attach it to your next forum post.

Same issue for me. I’ve seen many users complaining about this. It’s obviously something Adobe messed up with their latest update.  They need to fix this ASAP. I live and die by the histogram. I’m sure others out there do, too.

This has happened to me as well. ACR no longer shows a histogram since the latest update. I’ve contacted Adobe and went through a whole list of troubleshooting techniques. I even had a tech remote into my computer to fix the issue. When the tech worked on it, the histogram showed up for a split second, and then disappeared immediately, never to return.  I’ve also reset GPU support and it fixed nothing. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Bridge and PS (w/ ACR), but to no avail. I swear, this is an issue on Adobe’s side.  For me in is a deal breaker. I use the histogram religiously for print and color correction applications. Adobe needs to get this worked out ASAP and stop making it seem like this a hardware and/or a settings issue on the user’s end.

    Best,

Please clear your Camera Raw cache and see if the problem goes away.

Clearing ACR’s cache did not solve the missing histogram bug, but thanks for your suggestion, nevertheless.

I rolled back to 18.3 and that solved the missing histogram. For my needs, this suffices, but it Adobe should prioritize getting a fix for this bug out the door asap.

Recently, I updated Adobe Camera Raw to version 18.3.1.2580. Since the update, ACR does not display a histogram. However, when using the Camera Raw filter from the latest version of Photoshop, the histogram is shown. Since I have used ACR for years with my current computer and hardware without issues (specifically, with ACR displaying the histogram as expected), I assume that the recent ACR upgrade has adversely affected the histogram display (and whatever the bug in ACR, it is not present in the PS ACR filter).

I have not tried to roll back to an earlier version of ACR.

My first thought to correct the problem was to install the latest NVidia driver (596.36; studio driver version), but it did not correct the loss of the histogram.

I also reset GPU support from within the Preferences in ACR. This too did not correct this issue.

I admit this is more of an annoyance than a ‘show-stopper’, but if anyone knows why this problem happened and, more important, how to correct it, by all means please post a reply.

    Thanks, Bob
