P: (Windows - A750 & A770 GPU) New Denoise turning images black and white

  • April 7, 2023

Using the new AI Denoise feature seems to darken my images and strip almost all the color out of them. Files are from a Nikon D500 being processed by a Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM, and Intel A750 video card on Windows 11. Tried to create virtual copy of file and reset all other adjustments and it makes no difference. Still dark and almost completely black and white.

Greetings All,

We would like to collect some logs so we can confer with your GPU manufacturer.  Can you please follow the instructions here:

(WINDOWS ONLY) SAVE THE DXDIAG REPORT

The tool dxdiag produces a report that can be helpful to the engineering team while investigating problems.

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or click the Windows button in the taskbar.
  2. Type 'dxdiag' (this does a search for the program).
  3. Press the Enter key.
  4. Wait for the DxDiag window to appear.
  5. When it's enabled click the Save All Information button.
  6. Save the DxDiag.txt file and submit it when reporting problems.

You can post the DXDiag.txt file to your reply and I will collect them.

We've received enough logs to evaluate. Thank you for posting them.

Bonjour,

Didier Cornilleau

For me the culprit is clearly my discrete GPU (Intel Arc A370M), as I've now established that my integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe) can perform AI denoise without issue (done by customising graphics setting for Photoshop to 'Power Saving', see screenshot). I'd been having the same problem where AI denoise progressively darkening images and stripping almost all the color out. However, I noticed that occasionally it would work. It then occured to me that ever since I've had the laptop (about 3 months) photoshop would randomly and periodically switch to the integrated GPU (prompting a warning), despite me customising the app as 'High Performance' to use the discrete GPU. Doing so purposefully then solved the issue. In my uneducated opinion there's clearly an issue with Photoshop and Intel Arc GPUs that goes deeper than just the AI noise feature.

If you are affected by this issue, please click the up arrow at the top of the post so we can better gauge how many are using this Intel GPU and having the problem.

Thank you.

The graphic card on my (very new) Lenovo Yoga 7i 16" laptop is a Intel Arc A370M 4GB GDDR6 ... and I'm having the same issue.

I have the same issue going on. Darkened image and devoid of color. This is from a Nikon Z7II and on a brand new Lenovo laptop. All drivers on the laptop are up to date.

Do you know the support status of Intel Ark for the proprietary GPU recently released by Intel?

If it is not a check target in a rare environment, it may have escaped debugging and been released.

New Denoise not working.  I'm running LC12.3 recent upgrade.  the preview and saved DNG are sort of a B&W version (see attached screen capture.)  I've tried the new denoise on several different file types (CR2 CR3 DNG ARW) all with the same result.

So it seems to be an issue on the LR side, as you have a different card than others have posted in this thread.

@Charles Ruscher  post of his issue is unrelated to this thread.

looks like my experience is identical to what the others have posted. Is there no fix or does one need to be rolled out via update?
