Dreamweaver 2021 crashes - Unable to create a report of external links

When using the external link checker, I am unable to save the results to a text file. Dreamweaver 2021 crashes, and the information saved to the text file is the broken link report instead.

  1. Site, Site Options, Check Links Sitewide.
  2. Change the selector to External Links.
A list of external links is displayed.
  3. Right-click in the results and select Save Results...
  4. Specify a text file name and location.
  5. Click Save.
Dreamweaver crashes and reports that an error has occurred. I have sent several of these crash reports to Adobe.
  6. Open the text file that is created. It lists the broken links for the site, not the external links.

We only have this one site.

It could be a memory overload.

Can you test on a smaller site?

Hi Nancy,

The crash causes the text file to be truncated before it completes writing the broken links section. I've drawn a red line where it the text file is truncated every time:

While restoring preferences was successful, it did not fix the crash issue. DW crashes every time I try to save a link check report. Another colleague at Oracle has reported that the problem is the same for her.

Yes.  It's a cumulative report of ALL LINKS:

  • Broken Links begin on line 1.
  • External Links begin on line 258.
  • Summary appears at the bottom.

I ran the report twice.  Both reports are identical.

That said, I never use LinkChecker in my workflow.  But if I did, this data is what I'd expect to see.

As to your crashing problem, that's not typical.  Try Restoring Preferences and restart your computer.

Hi Nancy,

I'm on Windows 11 Pro version 22H2. So there are two parts to this bug. The crash, obviously. But also that the wrong information gets saved to the text file. Did you open the text file to see if the information saved is what you expect?

Thanks,

Dave

I can't reproduce it on Win10.

See screenshot.

Which operating system?

Possibly related: There is a known bug with right-click on Sonoma that causes Dreamweaver to crash.

Sonoma users should avoid using right-click for the foreseeable future.
