Not using private key file

This concerns Dreamweaver v 23.1 on Windows 10. I just installed Windows latest update yesterday. A description of the problem is below. To replicate-

-set up a remote server using SFTP

-use private key authentication

-enter the correct user name

-enter the correct password

-select the correct private key file

-attempt to put files to the server or to connect to the server

Expected result is a connection to the server (has worked for years using same info). Actual result is an FTP error "cannot make connection to the host. Your login or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information".

Starting today, after updating to the newest version of Dreamweaver, on Windows 10, I am getting an FTP error when I try to connect by SFTP to my remote web server. It tells me that my password and login are incorrect. This is not the case. My login credentials and my private key are correct.  My private key is stored on my E drive. It is a .pem key that has worked for years. I have tried the ppk version of my key on FileZilla, and it works.

I think that Dreamweaver is not picking up the file. Below is the bottom portion of my SFTP log file. My private key is on my E drive. It's locaction is E:\************.pem (with the wildcards representing the actual file name). Notice how my log file seems to only pick up my E drive, and not the rest of the file path.

According to the log file, my server is running OpenSSH 7.4 and my local OpenSSH is version 8.8.

I'm having an identical issue with 21.3.

My .ppk still works fine in every other client, but the .pem I'ved used with Dreamweaver for over a year stopped working. My logfile looks almost identical to @Renaissance501's.

@Cristina25579426utrb

Did you contact your hosting provider to ensure servers are compatible with new security connections?

I'm facing the exact same issue with the latest version of DW. Also tried all of the suggested solutions, they didn't work. Only downgrading works for now.

Hi @Renaissance501,

Thanks for writing to us. Can you please try the below:

1. Quit Dw

2. Replace the content with the below entries in the config file present within the folder "/Users/<username>/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver 2021/<locale>/Configuration/SFTP/".

HostkeyAlgorithms +ssh-rsa,ssh-dss,rsa-sha2-256,rsa-sha2-512
PubkeyAcceptedAlgorithms +ssh-rsa,ssh-dss,rsa-sha2-256,rsa-sha2-512
PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes +ssh-rsa,ssh-dss,rsa-sha2-256,rsa-sha2-512

3. Save and close the file

Please be aware that this issue could be due to server using older deprecated protocols(per OpenSSH standards) and hence there could be other reasons for the connectivity failure which we will further debug in case the above doesn't works.

Have a pleasant day!

Regards,

Nayan

I've downloaded it several times and it's the same thing every time. If I knew which file(s) of your source code execute the sftp request, I could look at it myself. I'm not sure what adobe support can do for me but I may try them. I may also get a different server. It is either the files that it is trying to create or my private key. Of this I am very certain.

Are you using the new protocol OpenSSH with a .pem key file?

See below for more details:

Dreamweaver is now integrated with the following third-party library upgrades and bug fixes:
  • OpenSSH: Upgraded version 8.8 enhances security for SFTP connections. If your remote server is configured with old protocols, use this workaround for successful SFTP connections.
  • OpenSSL: Upgraded version 1.1.1n enhances FTPS (explicit and implicit) connections.
  • LibCurl: Upgraded version 7.80 enhances connectivity to FTP, FTP (explicit and implicit), and WebDAV connections.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, version 23.1. It is not using my private key.

Downgrading to the last version fixed the problem. V 21.3 has something wrong with it.

No, nothing is wrong except your server hasn't been updated to new OpenSSH security protocol.  You may wish to light a fire under your hosting provider about it.  Your topic has been moved from DW Bugs to Discussions.

In the meantime, you can roll back to old legacy protocols.  But IMO that's not a good long term solution.  Security updates are very important.

There is nothing wrong with my server. I am not getting the error that is shown in that link. OpenSSH 7.4 is compatible with OpenSSH 8.8. The algorithms that have been removed will only affect OpenSSH versions previous to version 7.2.
