Illustrator no longer updating when new fonts added, without restarting.

​@dylanf35504498 - Let us know the Illustrator version at your end. And if this is happening with any particular font or any fonts? How are you installing the new fonts - through any font manager app?

Facing same issue. How is it possible that we go decades without new features yet every update has some new bug that breaks something simple. It’s always something, can’t even properly remove backgrounds in Photoshop anymore. The quality of adobe is becoming very disappointing. 

It also used to update the font live if you installed an updated version of the font.  That is very helpful when designing a new font and trying to test the adjustments.  Now I have to quit the program to test even the smallest update.

Wanted to give another feedback to the team.

I recently updated to the latest adobe build 30.0 and I have the same exact issue. I'm forced to quit Illustrator to be able to use a newly installed font. I'm the administrator of my computer and I simply right click the font » Install. 

Previous builds allowed for the person to instantly use the font in the software without the need of quitting it and I dont understand why it's behaving like this now.

I download the otf file from a website (in this, Glyphr Studio), go to the folder with the font file is locate, right click on it, and select install. The most recent font I installed on 11/13 appears to have loaded in Illustrator without needing to restart the program, but there's still one more font that isn't showing up. I can see it in Photoshop but not Illustrator.

Installing fonts by right click>install does not work.  Activating fonts from my fontbase, font organizing software also doesn't work.  Both instances require an illustrator restart.  

@Niknab0417 - Can you let us know exact steps about how you install or activate a new font? We did roll out fix for this issue in v30 but since you are still running into this issue, we would like to know more about your workflow so that we can recreate it internally.

I just updated to version 30.0 and am still seeing the same issue as of 11/6/2025. At least now I know it's a problem with the program and not my computer. It's still frustrating since the project I'm currently working on involves installing fonts.

Still not refreshing in real time November 2025. This is a horrible change. I upload new font multiple times per project. Have to close out and restart each time is a HUUUGE waste of time. Uhg. I sure hope this is just a "bug" and will be rectified with and update. 😕😕
