File not saving (Illustrator Web)

I recently led a class of 37 students in a tutorial using Illustrator Web (beta). A few were using our institution's Windows devices in Chrome and these students encountered a problem with saving the file. 

Students noticed the file was not saving periodically.  Some students lost their work.  When instructed to manually click the save button (cloud icon), they were told the file could not be saved.  We attempted multiple times to save the file. We attempted saving from the hamburger menu. We attempted accessing it from the Adobe cloud file storage area. But the file could not be saved. 

Perhaps related, for many student the "Rename" option had been disabled (to change the filename from UntitledDate12343637 to ProjectName) -- as a work around, we had entered Document Settings, clicked on the file name, then used the "rename" option. 

Work around: 

Some students were able to use "save as" to access their file again. 

However, myself in preparing the activity the week before had experienced a file save error when using "save as", in which I was not able to save a new version nor open it. So I was highly doubtful that save as would be a solution.  

Saving the file is very important to using the software so it would be nice if it could be relied on to do so.
