P: Can't navigate with space button while using content aware fill healing

After updating to the new Lightroom Classic with the content aware fill healing feature, while using the tool, I'm not able to navigate around the image by holding down space bar. It works at first, but as soon as I put down a content aware correction, it no longer works. I have to click outside of the photo entirely before it works again. Seems like a small bug that makes the experience frustrating.

The new masking tools in LRC are definitely a time saver, keeping you in LRC without having to venture out to other tools. Finding a subject is generally pretty good for obvious subjects.

 

What is missing however, is being able to pan around the image easily whilst enhancing the masks.

 

Just tested this on the latest major revision - 12.0 as well as the previous 11 release.

 

Specifically, using the brush tool for adding or subtracting from the mask. If you are using a Magic Mouse or Wacom tablet you can't pan slightly with any of the existing methods (swipe on the surface of the mouse).  The swipe events are interpretted as brush size changes.

 

Page up / down, Shift Page up / down short cuts don't have the resolution - they jump too many pixels to be useful.

 

Brush size is already handled by the [ ] short cuts.

 

Typically, I'll use the Magic Mouse surface for panning and the Wacom for brush.

 

Seems weird to overload the scrolling behaviour that works everywhere with the Magic Mouse.

 

Two finger swipe on the Wacom also pans, but also results in changing brush size.

 

I can't find sensible Pan gesture combo at this point on a Mac.

Thanks, Rikk, that does work.

 

Space to Pan is consistent with Photoshop keyboard events.

 

The LRC behaviour with mouse scroll does not match Photoshop. When in Zoomed mode, Photoshop still allows panning with the Magic Mouse surface. It doesn't become a brush size control.

 

So my suggestions would still be:

  • Support pan and zoom with mouse scroll with consistent behaviour to Photoshop
  • Be more judicious about the brush size interaction with scroll, perhaps using a modifier key

 

Unclear to me why the designers (or engineers) would make mouse swipe behaviour different compared to the rest of the interface. Adjusting brush size feels like a secondary action along side the ability to pan, especially when you consider the global behaviour of scroll. So I would propose command + option + mouse scroll to change the brush size.

 

Noting that Shift + Scroll changes the feathering region.

 

Doing some selection adjustments with brush addition / subtraction around people, you tend to stay in a brush for some time when you are working with sections "in between" you'll reduce your brush size but you might also zoom in a bit more to refine the edges. But once you are zoomed in you do need to pan. Just from that description, zoom and pan are used more than a brush change. Once you are done you will zoom out to look at another area, if there are a large areas to work with you'll adjust the brush accordingly.

 

Option + scroll in Photoshop produces Zoom behaviour. You would want to maintain consistency with Photoshop.
