P: Canon tethering stopped working after updating to Lightroom Classic v15.4

Installed this and my tethered camera setup no longer works.  It appears to work as before, but no images are transferred.  Canon R1, Windows 11.  Anyone else having tethering issues?

Since I first updated to LR Classic v15.1 I’ve had one tethering problem with my Canon 5D Mark IV, I can’t adjust the focus. Shifting the autofocus point is almost impossible because the option turns off in a flash. It’s not the camera. Focus works fine when not tethering. I just upgraded to 15.6 which did not fix the problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

I just received the r6 mark iii and cannot tether shoot at all with lightroom. I’ve turned on Canon SDK for Tethering and that made it worse as the software does not connect to Lightroom at all. EOS Utility can connect to the camera, but Lightroom cannot even detect the camera.

Connect my canon r5 mkii to Lightroom tethered capture. It connects and can shoot via the tethered button in Lightroom but no images are transferred over and nothing appears in the library. I’ve tired every solution online to fix it but nothing works. It was fine before the latest Lightroom update.

I managed to connect with an actual person working for Adobe this morning. I used the online chat facility on their help pages which is very hard to find… and you have to chat with an AI Bot for several comments, before it offers you the option to connect with a human.

I raised the issue of R6 Mark iii still not tethering with Lightroom Classic on a Mac (even with all latest updates of everything)

Sure, I will share the details with team to update it. I apologize but the exact time is not known to us as it depends upon testing, development, and management. But you may expect it in the upcoming update or the adobe max update which will be major release

    You said:

Thank you for your help. Please can you stress the importance of this update. Many users are currently unable to use their new cameras for theior professional work. Myself included.

No need for anyone to clarify if the R6 Mark III is supported, you can always go to https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/desktop/kb/tethered-camera-support.html and get the latest information.

As far as your other issues, you probably want to file a formal bug report.

Actually I didn’t just want to file a bug report, but in fact, I did. I wrote a bug report, and appeared here, among questions.

    I had this experience.
Moderators appear to move comments into the chat they think is most appropriate.
I have found it to be incredibly unhelpful.

Tethering with my Canon EOS R6 Mark III is still not working in Lightroom Classic 15.5, despite Adobe stating that the Canon tethering issue had been fixed.

In fact, the situation is now worse than it was in Lightroom Classic 15.4. With 15.4, I could at least see the camera's Live View. In 15.5, I get nothing. Lightroom can see and display my camera settings, but I cannot actually use tethering or control the camera from Lightroom.

I have already ruled out the camera and cable as the cause:

    • The camera firmware is fully up to date.
    • Canon EOS Utility recognizes the camera and works correctly.
    • The USB tethering cable is working properly.
    • The camera itself is therefore clearly communicating with the computer.

I also tried using the SDK option, but in that case Lightroom Classic does not recognize the camera at all.

So, despite the release notes indicating that the Canon tethering bug was fixed, the Canon R6 Mark III is still effectively unusable for tethered shooting in Lightroom Classic 15.5 — and compared with 15.4, the situation has actually regressed.

This is seriously affecting my work. Tethered shooting is not an optional feature for me; it is an essential part of my professional workflow. I have already spent significant time troubleshooting an issue that should have been resolved by this update.

Please investigate the R6 Mark III tethering implementation specifically and provide a real fix as soon as possible.

I would also appreciate clarification on whether the Canon R6 Mark III is officially supported for tethered shooting in Lightroom Classic 15.5, and if so, why the functionality is still broken despite the claimed fix.

Canon R6 Mark III here and it’s not working. It detects the camera and I’m able to show live view and trigger the shutter button via Lightroom, but images are never transferred to macOS. Image counter on camera keeps flashing forever, like it’s trying to save the image but never ends.

Tried the “Canon SDK for Tethering” but with that option enabled the camera isn’t detected at all in Lightroom.

I’m using Lightroom Classic v15.5 in macOS.
