P: Deleting rejected photos while in Develop doesn't work

Since the last LR update, images have been "stuck" in the Develop module. It happens regularly, but so far I've been unable to identify a triggering event. For example, I was editing an image in Develop this morning. Then went to the Library module and selected a different image. When I clicked back to Develop, the original image I'd been working on was still displayed. Clicking any other module displayed the new image I wanted to work on, but the Develop module continued to display the original image. (Note: I don't necessarily have to select an image in Library to make this happen - sometimes just selecting a new image while still in Develop will yield a stuck image.) If I try to make edits to the image, it is the new image that gets the changes, not the stuck image, so it's only an issue with the previewed image.

The only current fix for this is to close and reopen LR. When I do, the image that I wanted to work on is now displayed.

I understand from Victoria Brampton that you may already be working on this. And I note there is a thread of others complaining of the same issue: https://forums.adobe.com/message/9201341#9201341

If I can help you with information about my settings, please let me know what you need. FYI, I'm on Windows 10 (all updates are current) and Adobe CC (all updates are current).

I had this happen today and I did not remove any images first. The only thing I did differently was clicked on the auto collection for the latest import (one picture).

Me too. I just deleted a photo (remove from disk) i, the develop mode, and the last preview will stick on the develop screen, only exiting LR and reopening will fix it. Win10 LR CC.

I have encountered the same problem. It happens after deleting (remove from disk)  some of the recently imported photos. While working in the develop module, I tend to change photos by clicking on the thumbnails at the bottom. At some point the photo to be edited in the main screen can no long be changed in this way. (It still changes in the navigator window). If I then try to change modules, I get a grey screen and have to reload LR. Interestingly, activities like building previews and converting to DNG continue as before even with the grey screen.

No worries 🙂

I'm also having this problem. I hadn't associated it with image deletion but that's certainly possible and I'll keep watch for that. Windows 10 build 14986 (Insider Slow), latest LR CC.

I'm the OP of this thread, but certainly there's now enough others with this issue on this and other threads that we can confirm it's a real bug in the current LR update. The precipitating cause is doing a Ctrl/Cmd-Backspace while in Develop mode of images marked with an X AND with the preview image resting on one of the images that's been marked for deletion.

Workarounds include: switching to Library module before deleting OR changing the preview image to an image NOT marked for deletion before hitting the Ctrl/Cmd-Backspace.

Let's hope the Adobe engineers are on this for the next update.

  1. Import a number of photos... 10-20 should be OK
  2. Switching to the Develop module on your main screen
  3. Shift + G to display a grid view of your 20 photos on your secondary screen
  4. Start right arrowing through your photos and press X on a few of them to mark for deletion.
  5. Stay on the last photo you have marked for deletion and press Ctrl + backspace
  6. Choose "delete files from disk" (approx wording)  option in the popup dialog
  7. The last photo will stay on your main screen as the last photo being developed, and the only way to get rid of it is to restart Lightroom.
