P: Email photos using smart preview not possible

I am using Lightroom 5.2 (tested with MAC OSX 10.8.5; 10.9 and WIN 7/64)
All images are stored on an external drive an all smart previews are built.
If the external drive is unmounted and I try to email photos I get the error:
Can't send email because some selected photos are missing.
Exporting the photos to my local hard drive is working so the photos are not really missing.

This should be fixed in Lightroom CC/Lightroom 6.

It would be nice to be able to email an image from a computer that has smart previews even if the original files are offline.

Can not email smart preview from within Lightroom. The preview is large enough but the message is file can not be found. This really limits what I can do when I travel.

I cannot send email using smart previews. I was able to do this previously. Not sure why I cannot do it now.

I am using Lightroom 5. Version 5.2.

+1 vote for a prompt fix.

That said, there is a script named

'Email Photos'

that may suffice in the mean time.

It supports emailing any photos via Lightroom's native email service, even if offline (with smart previews).

it's free and I wrote it. download here:
