P: Import Fails Silently After Update

Auto updated to LrC 15.5 on my MacBook Pro M3 Max last night. Came home from shooting a concert and the import dialogue would appear to function normally, but after hitting the actual button to import, nothing happened. It went back to the grid view, briefly the import status bar appeared in the top left then just as quickly disappeared. I tried different ways of doing it, enabling full disk access (already was set), copy vs convert to dng, even created a whole new catalog and did a hard reset on my computer. Same issue every time. 

Decided to downgrade to 15.4.1 through the creative cloud as I was able to recently import and edit on that version. Opened Lightroom back up and viola, everything worked just fine. Gonna stick on this version and disable automatic updates until I hear adobe fixes this.

      Thank you for all the reports and testing so far. We’re continuing to investigate this issue, but the product team has not yet been able to reproduce the silent import failure internally.
       

      ​@SimonWe. finding that importing starts working after disabling the options under Apply During Import is particularly useful and may help us identify the condition triggering the problem.

      If you are still experiencing this issue in Lightroom Classic 15.5/15.5.1, could each of you please try the following tests and report the results?

      1. In the Import dialog, under Apply During Import, set both Develop Settings = None and Metadata = None, then try the import.

      2. If that works, test Develop Settings with your usual preset while leaving Metadata = None.

      3. Then test Develop Settings = None while enabling your usual Metadata setting.
       

      Please let us know which of these combinations succeeds or fails. This should help determine whether the issue is related to applying a Develop preset, metadata during import, the combination of the two, or something else.
       

      For anyone who can still reproduce the failure, we would also appreciate the Lightroom Classic console log (lrc_console.log) captured from a session in which the import fails.

      On macOS, you can find it here: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/lrc_console.log

      Please reproduce the issue first, then collect the log so it includes information from the failed import attempt.
      You can upload the log to Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, or a similar service and send me the download link via DM.
       

      If you’re no longer experiencing the problem, please let us know as well, along with your current Lightroom Classic and macOS versions.

       

      Please also let us know:

      Source: Where are you importing the photos from? For example, an SD/CFexpress card, internal drive, external SSD/HDD, or network storage/ NAS.

      Destination: Where are the imported originals being saved? For example, the Mac’s internal drive, an external SSD/HDD, NAS/network location, or cloud-synced folder.

      If you’re importing from a memory card, please also let us know whether using a different card/card reader or first copying a few files to the Mac’s internal drive and importing them from there changes the behavior.
       

      Having the same test results and logs from multiple affected systems will give the product team much better data to compare, and should help them narrow down.

      Hi Anshul,

       

      I tested a few different things, here’s my setup first:

       

      MacBook Pro M1 Max, macOS 26.6.2, LRC 15.5.1

      LR catalog on an external SSD

      RAW files on an external HDD

      Both connected via an Echo 11 Thunderbolt dock

       

      Step 1:

      Importing RAW data:

      - without metadata + without a preset = successful

      - with metadata + without a preset = successful

      - without metadata + with a preset = error

      - with metadata + with a preset = error

       

      It seems the presets are the deciding factor.

       

      Step 2:

      Importing RAW data with different presets:

      - successful with some presets

      - unsuccessful with others

       

      Step 3:

      Differences in the presets

       

      I can’t identify any obvious sources of error within the presets. The import fails with presets I created for a Fuji X100. These use a Fuji profile and various basic settings, but no AI features.

       

      Other Fuji presets, on the other hand, seem to work.

      I have the same issue. For me i had to deactivate any Presets that would be applied during the import and also deactivate the Metadata writing during import.

      Now it works

        I’m experiencing the same issue with Lightroom Classic 15.5 on Mac.

        I import photos from an SD card to an external SSD. The Import dialog works normally, but after clicking Import, the progress bar appears in the top-left corner for a few seconds and then disappears. No photos are imported and no error message is shown.

        I checked Full Disk Access and restarted my Mac, but neither made any difference. The same setup was working normally before the update to 15.5.

        I downgraded Lightroom Classic from 15.5 to 15.4.1, and importing immediately started working normally again.

        So in my case, the issue appears to be specific to version 15.5.

        I have the exact same issue and tried multiple ways. No solution so far. This did cost me 2h for nothing.

        • System Info from Help > System Info. Copy and paste the whole detail here
        • A short screen recording showing the import workflow and what happens when the import fails
        • Where are the files being imported from and saved to? For example, an SD card, local drive, external drive, or network storage.

          Hi Srishti,

          I’m experiencing the same issue and would like to add another reproducible case.

          System:
          MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021)
          Apple M1 Pro
          16 GB RAM
          macOS Tahoe 26.6.2
          Lightroom Classic 15.5.1
          Camera Raw 18.5.1

          Important: Lightroom Classic itself was not updated when the problem started. I updated macOS yesterday to Tahoe 26.6.2, and the Lightroom import problem appeared immediately afterwards.

          Import workflow / behavior:

          • Importing RAF files from an SD card, shot with a Fujifilm X-T4.
          • Lightroom recognizes the SD card correctly.
          • The DCIM folder and all image files are displayed correctly.
          • All thumbnails/previews are generated normally in the Import dialog.
          • In my current test, Lightroom correctly shows all 176 RAF files ready for import.
          • After clicking Import, Lightroom returns to the Library, but no images are imported.
          • There is no useful error message.

          Lightroom Classic already has Full Disk Access in macOS Privacy & Security, so this does not appear to be a missing permission for the SD card or removable volumes. Lightroom can clearly read the card and generate all previews before the import fails.

          As an additional comparison, I also updated macOS on my Mac mini M1, but that computer is still running Lightroom Classic 14.1. Importing images there continues to work normally.

          So in my case the problem appears with the combination of macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 + Lightroom Classic 15.5.1, while the older Lightroom Classic 14.1 still imports normally on another Apple Silicon Mac running the updated macOS.

          I can also provide the complete Help > System Info output and a screen recording of the failed import if that helps your product team investigate this further.
