P: Lens corrections don't work with HDRs merged from DNGs

Lens corrections don't work with Photo Merge HDRs merged from DNGs. They do work correctly with DNGs not produced by Photo Merge.

Tested with LR 14.3.1 / Mac OS 15.5:

1. Download and open this catalog:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vhm0r8s17csaatgs153pw/hdr-dng-lens-profile-bug.zip?rlkey=6i2o4jgomfzpfbj8gm4eizak8&dl=0

It contains raws from five cameras: Canon EOS R6m2, Fujifilm X-T5,  Nikon Z 7_2, ODS OM-1, Sony ILCE-7C. All the raws have Lens Corrections > Enable Profile Corrections checked.

2. Observe that for each camera, there are three stacks containing these stack tops:

- an HDR made from two copies of the original raw, e.g. DSC_0102-HDR.dng.

- an HDR made from full-resolution DNGs exported from two copies  of the raw with the options Image Format: DNG, Lossy Compression, e.g. DSC_0102-full.dng.

- an HDR made from reduced-resolution DNGs exported from two copies of the raw with the options Image Format: DNG, Lossy Compression, and Resize To Fit: Long Edge = 3000, e.g. DSC_0102-small.dng.

3. For each camera, compare the three HDRs in Loupe.  Observe that the HDR merged from reduced-resolution DNGs is missing some corrections for distortion and vignetting compared to the DNG merged from raws. E.g. DSC09289-small.dng versus DSC09289-HDR.dng.

4. Observe that for the Nikon Z 7_2 only, the HDR merged from the full-resolution DNGs is missing corrections for vignetting (DSC_0102-full-HDR versus DSC_0102-HDR.dng). But for the other four cameras, the DNGs merged from full-resolution DNGs have the correct lens corrections.

5. Compare a raw with its corresponding full-resolution and reduced-resolution DNGs. E.g. DSC09289.ARW, DSC09289-full.dng, and DSC09289-small.dng. Observe that they look identical and that the DNGs aren't missing lens corrections.

I borrowed a Canon EOS R7 and a Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 and made some test shoots and did the whole proces. With this combination the HDR merged from reduced-resolution DNGs is missing the lens corrections for distortion and vignetting compared to original files. The problem does not show with full resolution merges.

@Erik36545164gcm6: "when an update arrives, will there the published a document/list of things that have been addressed so I can find out if the issue is solved?"

Do the LR menu command Help > What's New to get a low-density marketing overview with a link to the fixed issues. Or visit here for a higher-density, generally more complete list:

@johnrellis Thanks for clarifying that. Just a small question: So when an update arrives, will there the published a document/list of things that have been addressed so I can find out if the issue is solved?

@Erik36545164gcm6, Adobe rarely comments on when a bug will be fixed. Lightroom Classic and the rest of the Lightroom / Camera Raw ecosystem generally get released every eight weeks. So we might expect to see LR 14.4 the weeks of June 16 or 23.

Also, note that if you do Photo Merge > HDR on smart previews rather than exported reduced-resolution DNGs, the resulting DNG also has the same problem with incorrect lens corrections.  Not surprising, since a smart preview is simply a reduced-resolution DNG.
