P: Lightroom Classic 15.5: Cannot save metadata after using People Removal

Versione di Lightroom Classic: 15.5 aggiornamento di agosto 2026

Sistema: MacOs Tahoe ultima versione

File: Nikon raw convertito in DNG

Comportamento: sistematico, sempre riproducibile

Many thanks indeed for your prompt reply!

It’s a small bug of course but better is the product and better is the life for every photographer, :-)

    Have a nice day,

    Hi @Gunela,

Thank you for the detailed report. I am checking with our engineering team if there is an issue they might be aware of. In the meantime, a workaround you can try:

    • Rather than cmd+S ("Save Metadata to File"), try selecting the affected files and using Metadata > Update DNG Preview & Metadata.
Note: this will regenerate the embedded preview so that file sizes may change slightly.
    • If the above doesn't help, you could export the edited file as a fresh DNG (File > Export with Original + Settings as DNG), re-import it, and confirm the flag doesn't recur. This isolates whether the issue is tied to the specific file's internal structure.

One quick question that would help us track this: does this happen only with Nikon DNGs you've converted, or have you also seen it with native DNG files (e.g., from a camera that shoots DNG directly, or a DNG created via Adobe DNG Converter)? This would help narrow down whether the original RAW structure plays a role.

    Best,

    Hi Anshul_Saini,

I already tried that operation but didn’t work, it’s mandatory to remove the person removal in order to get the metadata aligned.

Thanks for confirming that, @Gunela. I checked with the Lightroom Classic team, and the behavior you’re reporting matches an issue we’re already tracking in Lightroom Classic 15.5 involving People Removal and metadata status.

In the known issue, after People Removal is applied, Save Metadata to File does not correctly clear the metadata status, and the affected image is subsequently flagged again as having metadata changes. Your observation that removing the People Removal edit allows the metadata to return to the expected state is consistent with what we’re investigating.

I’ve added your report as another occurrence of the issue. There isn’t anything additional you need to troubleshoot at this point.

We’ll update the thread when we have more information or a fix available.

Thanks for reporting it and for confirming the behavior.

    Best,
    Anshul Saini
