P: Odd pointer behavior randomly appearing in LRC 12.3

Hello,

Working with LRC 12.3, I've noticed an odd behavior of the mouse pointer a number of times now, but I can't really figure out the exact conditions and how to reproduce it (yet). I'm posting here just to see if anyone else is experiencing this.

For example:

  • when I'm zoomed in, the mouse pointer only shows the "Hand" symbol (to move the zoomed area around) while I make movements (with my mouse); when I don't move it, it reverts to the normal pointer.
  • similary, when I'm using the Brush with a local adjustment, it only shows the brush as pointer while I move it; when I don't move it, it reverts to the normal pointer.

I hope this description makes sense.

My system is a 2019 27" iMac with 40GB memory, Radeon 580X 8GB. If it's of any importance, I'm running the iMac's 27" screen scaled, at 2880 x 1620 instead of its native 2560 x 1440, but this behavior is new to Lightroom Classic 12.3 and did not occur in version 12.2.1

I've had the same problem now for about 2 years. Tried everything in this thread including total uninstall of Adobe Creative Cloud and all the apps. My friends with the same MacBooks and versions of lightroom never had any issues. Might switch to Capture One if this problem doesn't go away.

@naestyoh  it was fixed for me in LrC 12.4, and has reappeared with version 13, but the steps to reproduce the bug reliably evade me; the ones originally described in this thread don't seem to trigger it.

13.0.1 here and I still see the flicker between the Lr tool mouse pointer and the OSX mouse pointer. I've seen this issue for many years. Tried disabling GPU but no change.

Sonoma 14.1.1

Mac Studio M1 Ultra but same behavior under 8700K intel imac

128GB ram 48-core GPU version

Greetings all,

Updates for Adobe Photography products have been released.  The June 2023 updates contain a fix for this issue.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for your patience.

Anyone having the issue of the healing brush constantly turning from the healing brush circle to the mouse pointer? It's very distracting.

Glad I found this post. I'm experiencing the same bug on a 2017 iMac with an AMD Radeon Pro 580 running Ventura 13.3.1 (a). When I don't use the graphics card, the problem goes away.

On Lightroom Classic 12.3 running macOS Ventura 13.3.1, the cursor will continuously "flicker" back to the default macOS cursor in the Develop module whenever the cursor is moved over an element that changes the cursor to something else, such as:

  • the magnifying glass icon when hovering over the image
  • the cross icon when hovering over the Tone Curve panel
  • the scroll hand icon when hovering over number values
  • the double arrow icon when hovering over the histogram
  • any of the crop tools (Crop Frame Tool, Straighten, etc.) when hovering over the image

During this time, Lightroom may also have prolonged high CPU usage.

The steps to reproduce this bug are:

  1. In the Library module, select an image, then enter the Develop module.
  2. The bug will not appear at this stage. Cursors will appear normally.
  3. Return to the Library module, then enter the Develop module again.
  4. The bug will appear and the cursor will flicker back to the default macOS cursor.

The bug will temporarily resolve itself if the source in the Library module is changed, either by changing the library filters, or by viewing a different folder or collection. The bug will reappear when you enter the Develop module, return to the Library module, and then go back to the Develop module.

The bug doesn't appear in the Library module or in any other module; it only appears in the Develop module. It also doesn't affect the actual functions of the program—all the tools will continue to work as intended. Aside from the high CPU usage that may present itself, it's not a show stopper (but is very annoying to work with).

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

I've been using Lightroom Classic for two days now (mostly re-linking my folders of images listed in the Develop module to my image folders in Dropbox 172.4.6706 now residing in the CloudStorage folder in Library on my iMac using the current MacOS), and the flickering pointer and or accelerating fans have disappeared, even after setting my Graphics Processor back to Auto in the Performance module of Preferences.

Mysteriousbut I'm happy!

Thanks for posting. Interestingly, when I quit LRC 12.3, and then reopened it, I didn't have the problem with the pointer flickering or the Jekyll and Hyde behavior of the pointer.

See my response in the other thread and check whether the steps I provided result in the flickering cursor.

Note that posts relating to the flickering cursor in the other thread may be merged into this thread for easier tracking.
