P: Pasting long list of file names into "Any Search Field contains" stalls LR for 10 minutes or more
Pasting a long list of file names into the Text filter "Any Searchable Field contains" causes LR to stall for many minutes, not responding to many commands. The only way to recover is to let LR run for up to 10 minutes or more (or recover from backup). Restarting LR or deleting preferences doesn't help.
Pasting the list into the filter "Filename contains" works as expected.
To reproduce with LR 14.3.1 / Mac OS 15.3.2:
1. Download and open this catalog, which contains 40K (tiny) photos:
2. Open the file "600-files.txt" from the catalog folder in a text editor and copy all 600 file names.
3. Open the Text filter with "Filename contains" and paste in the 600 file names from step 2.
4. In a few seconds, the results display.
5. Clear the list of file names from the Text filter.
6. Set the filter to "Any Searchable Field contains" and paste in the 600 file names. Observe that the grid goes blank and says "Loading...". Activity Monitor shows a constant % CPU of over 200%.
7. After a minute or two of CPU time, the grid shows the results, but LR continues to consume 100 - 200% CPU.
8. Select a photo and type 6 to set a color label. Observe that nothing happens.
7. Clear the list of file names from the Text filter and exit LR. Observe that LR's % CPU stays above 100 for about another minute of CPU time before the LR process actually exits.
8. Start LR.
9. Observe that the filter "Any Searchable Field contains" is open and still contains the 600 file names, even though it was cleared in step 7. CPU stays steadily above 200% for a couple of CPU minutes before the grid results appear.
10. Clear the 600 file names from the text filter and switch it to "Filename contains".
11. Exit LR, observing it again takes another CPU minute or two for its process to finally exit.
12. Restart LR, and observe that the text filter has reverted to "Any Searchable Field contains <600 file names>". Observe that commands like setting a color label don't take effect.
The only way I've found to clear the text filter and get LR operating normally again is to clear the 600 file names, wait for perhaps 10 minutes or more for LR to finally stop using 100 - 200 %CPU, and then exit LR. The state of the filter is recorded in the catalog, not in preferences, so resetting preferences won't help.
