P: Removing Denoise from a large number of files fails

I applied Denoise to 115 files by selecting the files, select Autosync, the clicking the check box on Denoise.  After all files complete Denoise, I again selected the same 115 photos, select Autosync, then uncheck denoise.  The process starts and a status bar appears labeled “Removing Denoise on 115 photos”.  The status bar progresses but after a short time stops.  Checked the photos and find the first 21 have had denoise removed.  Did “Optimize Catalog...” and then restart.  Tried to denoise the remaining 94 photos. Same result as before but this time it denoised another 21 photos before hanging up.  Restart, the did the same process to remove denoise on the remaining 73.  This time it removed denoise from 18 before hanging up.

LrC is unable to remove Denoise from the entire set of selected photos.

LrC 15.3, Win11

Thanks for the reports. A bug has been logged for the team to review.

Confirming the same behaviour on my Windows 11 PC. After applying Denoise to 109 images using Auto Sync in Develop, then trying to remove the Denoise from all 109 images using Auto Sync (uncheck Denoise) stops after 21 image processed. Cancelling the process in the Progress Bar renders the remaining photos uneditable and the selected photo’s thumbnail in the Filmstrip changes to blank (grey). Normal operation resumes after a restart of LrC. Removing Denoise using the same method for the remaining photos stops at 21 photos; repeat.

    Definitely a serious bug.

@Sameer K, @Rikk Flohr_Photography, I see the same behavior as @DClark064. Please consider moving to bugs.

I see the same misbehavior on LR 15.3 / Mac. After the first Auto Sync of unchecking Denoise on 120 photos, the progress bar stopped moving after 21 photos, and LR was consuming no CPU:

Clicking “x” cancels the progress bar and closes it. However, when I try to take any of the remaining 99 photos into Develop, all the settings panels are greyed out:

But no warning about AI running in background is displayed.  I have to restart LR, and it shows this warning:

This is pretty clearly a bug with the new background processing of AI.

Error, it removed denoise from 21, not 18, on the third round.  It continued removing 21 for each of 5 rounds until the sixth round when only 10 were left.  It removed the final 10 without error.

The bug reported here is that LrC can only remove denoise from 21 photos at a time (for the 50MP Sony A1m2 photos tested here). The problem of removing denoise from files and recovering the storage space consumed by denoise is more extensive discussion, but there are significant problems beyond being able to remove the denoise from a large block of photos.
