Recipe:

When the secondary window is in grid view, it doesn’t always respond to the keyboard shortcuts “f”, Escape, or Shift+g.  To reproduce on LR 15.3 / Mac OS 26.4.1, follow these precise steps (see the attached screen recording):

1. In LR, go to Grid view, close the secondary display window if it’s open, and do Window > Screen Mode > Normal

2. Restart LR.

3. Do the menu command Window > Secondary Display > Grid to open the secondary window in Grid view.

4. Select a thumbnail in the secondary window and type “f”. Observe that nothing happens (incorrect).

5. Do the menu command Window > Screen Mode > Full Screen Preview (the command invoked by the shortcut “f”) and observe that the image is displayed in full screen.

6. Type Escape to exit full screen preview and observe nothing happens (incorrect). Typing “g” and Shift+g also have no effect (incorrect).

7. Type Cmd + Tab and then Tab to switch to an app other than LR. LR is now no longer in full screen mode.

8. Click another thumbnail in the secondary window and type “f” and then Escape. Observe that LR shows the photo in full screen and then exits full screen (correct).

MacOS 26.4.1, LightRoom Classic 15.3

I work on my laptop, I need all the room I can get - my windows are always in full screen. full screen image view is now broken; I have to revert to older LR classic or library browsing is broken

Repro Steps:

1. put window in full screen - fn-F or MacOS window expand to full screen button

2. select a photo in grid view

3. ‘F’ key to view image full screen

RESULT: nothing. no full screen image

EXPECT: full screen image

4. exit window full screen to regular windowed mode

5. ‘F’ key to view image full screen

RESULT: now it works. but I didn’t want my library in windowed mode. I want to use the whole screen.

NOTE: not repro LrC 15.2.1

In the past, LR has sometimes had issues when you use the Mac green window button to put LR into full-screen mode.

Instead of the green button, try the menu command Window > Screen Mode > Full Screen. Do you still see the problem?

On my Mac OS 26.4.1 / LR 15.3, I don’t see the issue either with the green window button or the Full Screen menu command.

I confirm I still repro the bug using menu bar Window | Screen Mode | Full Screen.

Reinstalled 15.3, used menu bar - it's funny the first time it worked, then back to grid, next F didn’t work. Works sometimes right after launch then stops.

I notice if I go to full-screen image, doesn’t work → then exit full screen on the main/library window - there is my full screen image view! so almost certainly a window z-ordering issue.

I’ve also been trapped in full-screen once or twice which I see that issue mentioned in older bug posts here. Wonder if again window focus my keystroke going to library window.

Also notice seems impacted by the fact I have LR assigned to a specific desktop in MacOS spaces so it launches to a consistent space and I keep main desktop for file management etc. Maybe I’ll stop doing that but still a bummer to have workflow impacted by so many flakey fullscreen bugs. Fullscreen is like core bread and butter of what we have LR for - to view browse and cull images from library with good fidelity viewing experience. Shame for it to be so unreliable.

noticing even 15.2.1, pressing G (or F again) to exit full screen back to grid, window presents with some extra space around the edges and then expands into the extra space which is annoying - unneeded and distracting movement. the extra space is black so you can’t see it, but the magnification/scaling is a distraction and overall full screen mode is a bug farm - especially on Mac laptop with “notch” and using a separate desktop “space” for Lr which again very useful/necessary to make good use of Lr full screen window. Please clean this up Adobe!!!
