P: Slow UI when using Mac and Custom Display Profile

Hello,

Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic v10.0, all UI-related functionality is painfully slow. All editing functions are working correctly and quickly but scrolling through the catalogue or even scrolling a side panel is taking many long seconds to refresh. Unreasonably long.

Disabling GPU Accellaration has no affect on my Lightroom's performance.

macOS Mojave 10.14.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5

32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

AMD FirePro D700 6 GB

B2C software companies, right.
B2B software companies are obliged to provide ETA for any development or debug.

Yeah, I was upgrading somewhat aggressively hoping for a fix for my web export being broken. This is a feature I use from time to time in dealing with customers and clients. I spent a very long time on the phone with Adobe support about this and at the end of it got the info that engineers know it is an issue some people have. Then I got the slowness issue.

It's too soon to tell, because I find the slowness seems to come and go. But I re-did my monitor and laptop calibration with Displaycal. It took a lot of time, but maybe it was worth it if I can escape the glue UI. LR seems snappy so far!

What's the target date?

You will not get an answer as Adobe like many (most) software companies do not published this.

Vastly more pressing:

When will all Americans get vaccinated, what's the target date?

When will all Texans get their power back and access to clean water, what's the target date?

@jlehet "I think the main takeaway besides as always keeping my eye out for the as-yet non-existent replacement for Lightroom is to upgrade very very carefully if they ever get this fixed."

That's right on the money.  I've been upgrading aggressively hoping to get fixes for the 16" performance, slideshow, and iOS file import bugs.  That caused me to run into bug number 4 (and none of the other three have been fixed).  Once I get back to a stable environment I'm going to disable the cloud updater on my systems, and just hope that the next MacOS release doesn't break the stable versions.

I'm sure we'll get one.  The question that's unanswered is when.  What's the target date?  That piece of information is what we need to be able to decide if painful and expensive workarounds are worth the effort.    We need an ETA.  If it's going to be another three or four months that's very different than next week.

On an individual basis, maybe. But if you think in terms of community, I don't think so. Rikk, administrator of this forum, posted on 01/12 an update of the situation. It's here. And it also has been thoroughly discussed in this thread, with a lot of passion (maybe too much ;).

But I can understand you don't want to read all the 224 posts…

Take courage, the fix is coming, they said…

@jlehet Can't keep my edits if I roll back to an earlier version, because I make extensive use of virtual copies.

You might try exporting VCs as DNG. At least you'll have an actual document that isn't solely contained in the Catalog. I do this routinely on ”hero” VC’s so I can access this without fear such images are only contained in a proprietary catalog.

Can't keep my edits if I roll back to an earlier version, because I make extensive use of virtual copies. I try a lot of different crops and alternative interpretations for many images. When I go to print, there is only one image, but that's Photoshop time anyway. For me Lightroom is for fooling around and exploring, while Photoshop is where the final edits are. And all that exploring is done on virtual copies.

I think the main takeaway besides as always keeping my eye out for the as-yet non-existent replacement for Lightroom is to upgrade very very carefully if they ever get this fixed.

I have the latest Photoshop and Lightroom.

The latest Mac OS running on the latest iMac 27", fully specced up.

My workflow has ground to a halt because of these bugs.

I have had no feedback from Adobe.

I don't feel supported, I feel ignored.

I don't valued, I feel taken for granted.

The whole experience leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth.

We all hope it will be sorted out soon ! But meanwhile, it's possible to roll back to an earier version while keeping your edits by using attached .xmp sidecar files or converting your raws in DMG which contain the xmp data. (This of course if your current version of LR is still usable, even slowly.) However, I guess some information will be lost, like collections, ratings… (and, I suppose, actions that didn't exist yet in the previous version).

I think you will have more trouble trying to redo your edits in Capture One which anyway can't use the LR .xmp files (as far as I know).
