P: Slow UI when using Mac and Custom Display Profile

Hello,

Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic v10.0, all UI-related functionality is painfully slow. All editing functions are working correctly and quickly but scrolling through the catalogue or even scrolling a side panel is taking many long seconds to refresh. Unreasonably long.

Disabling GPU Accellaration has no affect on my Lightroom's performance.

macOS Mojave 10.14.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5

32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

AMD FirePro D700 6 GB

@stephane_jean Does this bug affect all installations of Lightroom on all Macs and versions of MacOS?

No. It's a rare and complex bug that absolutely doesn't affect everyone, using all OSs or hardware. I have no such issues using a custom profile, make from NEC SpectraView,  on a MacBook Pro (last released prior to M1) on Big Sur.

Does this bug affect all installations of Lightroom on all Macs and versions of MacOS? I haven’t upgraded to 10+ yet but am starting to grow tired of waiting for a fix as there are new features that I have longed for for a very long time. But there’s no point in update if there’s no chance of success. 😉

Is this a known issue, affecting many people?

Do you think Adobe recognise it as such?

Are they addressing it?

1. No

2. Yes

3. Yes

Since others with equivalent hardware are not having the problem, the next step is to find out what is different about your configuration:

  • plug-ins for Lightroom and/or macOS
  • monitor profiles / calibration
  • what else is going on such as Lightroom updating previews in the background. When I switched to 1:1 previews, it took Lightroom about 18 hours to complete the work.
  • 3rd party anti-malware
  • syncing to the cloud, since this is a fresh install, this could take quite a while
  • have you checked the performance monitor to see what is consuming resources?
  • if it is Lightroom consuming the CPU then you might just let it run for a few hours and see if the problem goes away. Unfortunately Lightroom can be running heavy CPU tasks in the background but not indicate it in any way.

3 months is more time than the delay between V9.4 (june-august 2020) and V10 (october 2020). This also is a fact.

A fact indeed that has nothing to do with the current bug and fix.

My 6 month old puppy gained 20lbs in three months and that fact too is moot. Must we hear another great void contribution about this Adobe bug fix process of which you have no experience?

I apologize:

For finding the bugs, setting up a fix, testing the fix internally and then externally, after three months, it it not done.

Many thanks for this scoop: you have to find the bug before fixing it.

Yes, didn't take 3 months as assumed and then posted (another great void contribution).

@photostudiotnk Adobe has been working hard for 3 months to find a very tricky bug.

No, find then fix, then test the fix internally, then test the fix externally.

Those of us working in the bug find/fix trenches of course are aware of the process. Others can assume.....
