P: Split Stack removes photos from catalog

This sure feels like a bug:

Steps:
Create a stack
Select it
Choose Split Stack

Result:
All photos bar top are removed from catalog.

Huh?...Help says:

Note: The Split Stack command is not available if you only select the top photo in a stack.

That's the behaviour I would expect. Is this a known bug?

This was fixed in Lightroom 5 or later.

As an alternative to restart LR, another trick/workaround to get back the "lost" photos is to create another stack (in the same folder or anywhere else). This seems to "reset" the display logic for stacks and the lost photos reappear.

Edit: Or, even better, just activate the remaining visible photo, create a virtual copy and undo it. Creating the virtual copy will implicitely create a new stack, with the same effect of resetting the grid so the missing photos reappear.

Shangara, we were able to see this happen, and have logged a bug.

Becky, yes, that is correct. If I split a stack when it is expanded, it behaves as expected. I can split it any number of times.

However, if a stack is collapsed, the Split Stack command behaves like the Remove From Stack command, except I am left with just the top photo.

When I relaunch, I see all of the missing photos. I tried switching to different views and modules but nothing brought back the photos, which is why I originally assumed they were removed from the catalog.

I doubt if many people will use the command on a collapsed stack but I was testing the assertion in Help that the command is NOT available when you select only the top photo in a stack. It is and it's NOT behaving as expected.

Shangara, just want to confirm - the photos disappear when the stack is collapsed, but are correctly displayed when the stack is not collapsed?

Thanks,
Becky

Yes, Jeff, I am, as per the topic heading....

Both Split Stack and Remove From Stack do the same thing if the stack is collapsed when I choose the option: removes photos from "view."

Since there is no Refresh (that I am aware of), I need to relaunch Lr to see the removed photos in the Grid view.

That's what feels like a bug (it may be local). Just want to know if it is a known bug.

Using Mac OS X 10.8.2 and Lr 4.2.

In the English version, there is a Split Stack command (see Help).

The command is also under Photo > Stacking, not Edit > Stacks.

There is no Flatten Stack command to the best of my knowledge.

I have since discovered photos aren't removed from the catalog.

After using the command on the top photo, I need to relaunch Lr to see the photos.

I think Shangara is referring to Lightroom.

Hey,
There is no option saying 'Split stack'. Could you please elaborate your third point?

In Edit->Stacks sub menu, there is an option saying 'Flatten stack'. If you click this option then all photos of stacks will be deleted except the top photo (a warning message is shown by Organizer before executing this operation). This is as designed. If you want to sell all images of your stack, use Stack->Expand photos in stack.
