P: Update Publish Collection Stalls

Mac OSX 12.01, Apple Silicon M1

LightRoom Classic 11.2

After upgrade from 11.1 updating any published collections (to disk) is very slow and gets stuck.  One or 2 get published, then progress stalls

Re-installing 11.1 solves the problem.

I just published 5 photos from LrC v.11.2 to Flickr with no problems on my iMac (M1). Previously, I had to retart LrC a couple of times.

Did you try just selecting any collection while the publish is hung? This has been working for me.

I have this problem as well, on LrC v11.2 both on MacOS X (Big Sur 11.6.4) and Windows 10 (fully updated). I moved 400GB of catalogs hoping that this issue was limited to MacOS (before finding this thread, of course). I created this ID (12825412) which I now realize is a duplicate.

I have tried resetting preferences. I have tried exporting part of my catalog to a new catalog, but that new catalog suffers the same issue. I have optimized the catalogs. I have disabled GPU usage. As noted, I have replicated the problem on both PC and Mac. I have published to SSDs and external USB hard drives on BOTH operating systems. Same behavior.

Publishing via the Hard Drive service (as originals) hangs after publishing a few photos. FWIW, last time I found that LrC reported 3 photos published, while it actually created 5 sets of files (NEF+XMP) plus an empty "tmp" folder.

On both MacOS X and on Windows 10, LrC now hangs after publishing 1-5 photos to a Hard Drive service. I use this constantly to move photos from a "triage" catalog to others, e.g. "good stuff" and "everything". I can cancel the hung publish job (this takes 10-30 seconds) but then LrC refuses to publish anything until I quit and restart. LrC will then publish a few more photos before hanging again.

On both platforms, LrC leaves empty "tmp" folders (starting with "tmp", then "tmp-1", and so on) after publishing the 1-5 files correctly. The service is configured to just copy the original image (.NEF in my case) with metadata (.XMP). In all cases, both files are present for those files it succeeds in exporting.

Without the ability to export, I am dead in the water as I do not publish photos online from my "triage" catalog. Thank God this is just a hobby for me -- I can't image how disruptive these "upgrades" would be for a professional photographer! This is the second Adobe product regression this year (Premiere Pro was broken for weeks in June 2021), and both were catastrophic failures of basic features.

FYI, I tried exporting one year of my "triage" catalog to a new catalog. That export worked fine; however, when I attempt to export the same 50 photos from THAT catalog to a new "export originals" Hard Drive service setup, I get the same behavior. LrC shows 3 photos as published and hangs, but it actually exported 5 photos to the destination directory (along with an empty "tmp" directory). LrC will sit in this state indefinitely (I've left it for several minutes) with no progress. Canceling turns the "x" red and the operation is canceled after about 10-15 seconds. LrC will then refuse to attempt any further exports until it is restarted. Rinse and repeat. 😞 Well, it was worth a try!

Yep same issue here. I have a couple of user accounts on the same machine I switch between for different jobs, didn't know if that affected it.

It seems to continuously stop after publishing 3 pictures. I then re-start Lightroom and it does it again. Every now and again it just starts working. I've tried re-installing. So frustrating.

Optimising Catalogue never finishes either.

"Has the team been able to push the fix from February 25th live yet?"

Adobe rarely announces release dates. However, LR releases every 8 weeks on average, so we might expect to see LR 11.3 early April.

Is there any update? Has the team been able to push the fix from February 25th live yet?

Wow that is confusing!

Coming to this a bit late in the day; one of my own publish plugins recently stopped working. Diggin around a bit I found two things, if it's of any help:

1. it only hangs on images that are being published for the first time. Images marked to republish publish just fine

2. the hang seems to happen somewhere in a getFormattedMetadata() call.

and now I just found it's all working again. No idea what I did to fix it.

Happy to do any testing if they still need it.

I have an export loop - for i, renditiion in exportContex:renditions( {stopIfCanceled = true } do - inside of which is an LrTasks.startAsyncTask() which in turn contains some calls to photo:getFormattedMetaData() before exporting the photo to a website. The first iteration of the loop runs through fine but second time around any calls to getFormattedMetaData() fail. I can't see why this might fail, any thoughts? This code has worked in the past, I'm returning to it after some months and probably a couple of Lightroom updates.

"The first iteration of the loop runs through fine but second time around..."

Educated guess: This has the same underlying cause as publish services hanging after the first photo:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-update-publish-collection-stalls/idi-p/12749232

To possibly confirm that, when your export loop hangs, click on the Quick Collection and then a second later back on the collection being exported/published -- does it resume?  That often works around the hangs reported in the bug thread linked above.

Yes, this is all happening in a publish service, publishing to a web site. The Quick Collection thing doesn't work but that may be to do with how I'm working this. I figured out that I could speed publishing up quite considerably by putting the Post to site process into concurrently running tasks, and there's a dozen or so of them when it gets going.

It might be worth noting that this hang only happens when the photos being published for the first time. If I publish them all one at a time then mark for republishing, they all go across quick as you like.

I have an Apple M1 iMac and have the issue with Publish syncing one photo to Flickr, then freezing. I twice had to relaunch LrC 11.2 before it published all the selection.
