Yes, confirming that Substance 3D Sampler launches without issue when 'SLI Configuration' is set to 'Disable SLI' (remember that NVLINK is a physical connection which remains in place unless manually removed).  The behavior of the three connected displays changes in single GPU mode and is a bit funky (resolutions change) but these issues can probably be addressed via other settings.

Also tested running Substance 3D Sampler on a different workstation with an older single NVIDIA GPU and it seems to work just fine.

I need to discuss this issue with NVIDIA.

Thank you for your detailed response. I currently have only one A6000 GPU in my office, time to ask a second one 😉

Changing the SLI mode while the GPU is in use and experiencing a crash is due to a driver limitation. This occurs because the GPU device disappears and is recreated with the “new” configuration.

You confirm you have no issue when using only use a signle GPU in 48GB?

Thanks for following up @Guillaume_Substance3D .

Confirmed that no other applications are running via Task Manager other than a browser.  No screen recorder or OSD running.

However, I may have stumbled on to the root cause of the problem or a symptom of the root cause as follows:

We are running two NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPUS which are physically connected via NVLINK and via the NVIDIA Control Panel (version 8.1.969.0) have the 'SLI configuration' set to 'Maximize 3D performance'.   Enabling SLI allows applications to see 96GB of shared GPU memory.

After changing the setting to 'Disable SLI' and selecting either one of the RTX A6000 GPUs, Adobe Substance 3D Sample launches and runs without crashing.

After disabling and re-enabling SLI, Substance 3D Sampler generated a pop-up error message that did not appear during previous crashes:

So it looks like something related to SLI and NVLINK is the culprit.

Hope this helps.

I’ve reviewed the various crash reports you provided.

Could you confirm whether you are using any additional software such as a screen recorder or an on-screen display (OSD) while working with Substance Sampler? Are you also running other applications or performing computations in parallel when using the Image to Material feature?

From the data I have, it appears that the GPU driver is failing, not directly because of Substance Sampler, but likely due to another process causing interference.

Regards,

Guillaume

@Ares Hovhannesyan, thanks for your note. Sampler 3D crashes before I can even get to the menu in your pic.  The Adobe help link sent by @Marion3D includes instructions on how to locate the log.txt file in case the app crashes before you can get to the help menu, which I've already done.  My goal is to send the log file to Adobe privately without exposing it to the world since it contains some identifying information about the system.

How to export log file.  Go to help menu, export. Then attach Ffile.

Thank you Marion3D,

Just read your message regarding sending you a log file.

Sampler 3D crashes before I can access the help menu and per your help link I located the log file and would like to send it but  Adobe the instructions say:

When asking for support on the forum, a log file is required. Here is how to attach a log file to your message:

Check the "Join a file" setting
Click on the "Choose File" button and locate your log file
Click on "Post" when your message is ready to post and upload your log file

I cannot find the 'Join a file' setting.  The Adobe instructions were 'Last updated on Sep 6, 2023'.

How can I send the log file privately?

Hi Ted,

Have you sent a crash report?
If you didn't, could you please send us you logs so we could look into it?
