Save with a new name is supposed to be independent.

Hello,

I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature but if it is a feature it is a pretty bothering one : if I save as a new file with a new name I expect the new file to behave as a totally independant one, not with dependancies with the other version.

I'm using a picture A as base in the file 1.

If I create a file 2, it is in order to be able to use a picture B independantly in the new file. If B change A it's... useless. It's a huge loss of time if I have to redo everything. At the minimum, we need to have the possibility to choose.

UPDATE : Ok, now to make things worse, the duplicate file leads sampler to crash at launch.

If I can understand Painter, Sampler and Designer to be, somehow, synchronized, a new file shouldn't be synchronized in anyway. From what I can see, the bugs and crashes comes both from the material and from the reference picture.  The two files share some kind of references somewhere instead to have their own references.

In other words :

- The origin file is called whatever.jpg

- The "internal" reference becomes 213zerfef6q5z74fqs4fq5s4...blabla_name and this is the one that cause the bug because it's taken as reference instead to keep whatever.jpg.

The synchronization of the two files create conflicts (I've tested creating several copies and using different names each time, the bug always happens).

So, if we create a new file based on an existing one : it NEVER should be synchronized in anyway.

Hi @juwfx1,

After considering your log, one thing that you can try is to clean the database by deleting the following folder:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Sampler

It will reset your Sampler. You will just need to reconnect your local folders if any.

Let me know if it helped.

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the bugs, even with similar conditions. Could you send the log (help > export log), so we can have more info on what's happening?

Hi Cyril,

I am opening one of my Sampler I made recently.

I've encountered a couple of issues that occur after saving my work to my disk and reloading it.

I'll describe them in order of priority:

1.Every time I reopen the previously saved document, a default "material1" is automatically created below my material, if I save and reopen a second one will appeear and so on.

2.In this file, there are just two layers: a weave and a warp. I've placed an image in the weave image option. This image, which is sourced from the directory where I saved the .ssa file, sometimes does not appear after reloading.

Hi @arthenics, Hello @juwfx1,

I'm not sure to follow what exactly was your workflow, but if there's an issue or a bug, we are honestly eager to solve it. Therefore, would you mind describing me step by step how to reproduce the problem, so we could investigate on our side?

Let me know,

I have the same issue.

I never get used to SD the way it handles files and projects and now I bother also in Sampler like you on save as file that sometime crash, all the time add default material into the save as new file, loose some images I have added into some layers. I have 30 years experience in CG and computer so rather I am getting too old or Adobe still a rookie in UX and dev ? I must add that I am paying all my apps to Adobe for years and more and more have to waste some time in the forums to fix things. Speaking about years and experienc, we are in the middle of 2023 and have really great computers power but Adobe  apps are slow like years 80', for example 2 layers in Sampler like a weave effect and a deform takes seconds to refresh in 3D view when it should be real time like we can see in some other small companies apps. Adobe marketing on the other hand has got really active and powerfull shiwing many many cool apps and trendy video to get your money. Yes I am frustrated and disappointed for what I get for my money.
