P: Adobe Photoshop 2024 quit unexpectedly

A bit of an update: I initially thought that inserting the txt config totally fixed the issue, but apparently not. When initially opening a file on a screen with a custom color profile, PS Beta would still crash for me. My workaround would still work where I move the PS Beta window to my macbook which has a generic color profile and open a first file in there. Then, once I move the PS Beta window to the monitor with the custom color profile, whenever I open subsequent files, it would not crash anymore.

2. Color profile I use: sRGB IEC61966-2.1

3. I created PSUserConfig.txt in the place you mentioned, but still crash in the same way when I try to 'edit in' PS with lightroom adjustments.

But here's what I've gathered:

a. in Ps beta my color setting is such that it asks me what to do with color space on startup

b. if I say keep the embedded profile, which is ProPhoto RGB for me, it crashes

c. if I say convert to working space profile, which is sRGB for me, it works

d. after this point if I try (a) again, it works

So at least in my case, it seems to be related to color profile setting. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your feedback in helping us isolate this issue.  It’s very helpful! Custom color profiles seem to play a role in this issue.

Creating the text file as you suggested didnt work for me.

The colour profile i'm using is custom using an xrite calibrator for my BENQ hardware calibrated display.

To recap on the work around I have found is to open a JPEG file in PS beta.  Leaving that open I am able to open Tiff files without PS crashing.  Either by using the method in lightroom (Edit in Photoshop) or by maually opening it.  PS then opperates as normal.  Once I close the tab with the JPEG file & try to open a Tiff file, PS crashes again.

For me all files types work apart from Tiff files.  Well i've only tried JEPGS & PNG.

Attached is the problem report that comes up when it crashes.

Update from my side.
I got curious because @Erin26 asked for the color profile.
I was using a custom color profile (created by X-rite color calibration software), so I tried changing that to generic (Display P3) and try opening images (JPG PSD) and now it opens just fine.
I am on the latest version of Beta and am using MAC M2.
FYI, I have no issues with the normal version of Photoshop.
Now it works fine.
