This no longer works... to create an oil painting - It still works in the non-beta version

  • Channels
  • Then “+” add layer
  • Edit>Fill>Brightness (B) 40% code 666666
  • Reselect RGB
  • Ctrl Click on the Gray layer
  • Hit OK for the error message
  • Generative fill “oil painting” or whatever

Generative Fill is used for oil painting with reduced opacity. It works okay with Photoshop 25.9.1 but not at all with Photoshop Beta 25.10.0.

See the attachment.

Actions that input level adjustments don't work anymore.

This includes:

Recording Image>Adjustment>Levels and for example Input 2, 253.

Recording creating an Adjustment Layer, and setting the input levels to 2, 253.

The action creates the Levels adjustment layer, but does not include the input level despite the recorded action listing the inputs.

This is what the recorded action is:

Make adjustment layer

Using: adjustment layer

Type: levels

Preset KindL Custom

Adjustment: levels adjustment list

levels adjustment

Channel: gray channel

Input: 2, 253

Yes i see that on the Mac side as well with the Image Mode>Grayscale and Image>Adjustments>Levels and

Image>Adjustments>Curves values being recorded in an Action, but not applying on playback of said actions.

Same thing with Photoshop 2024 (ps ver 25.9)

Wow this thread regarding the generative fill to create an oil painting from your own photo has been open for awhile. No resolution I see and I just signed up for a subscription to Photoshop. I have used photoshop since version 5.0. Been pulling my hair out using the tutorial and thinking I had been doing something wrong. Quite frustrating when a software company updates a beta and breaks it from doing something they are promoting. Makes me concerned about their ability to maintain feature sets in the product. They just break it and don't know how to fix it? Whats going on here Adobe? Are you actively working on this or should I go sign up for a different product to do this AI stuff everyone is so excited about?

Updated the new Ps Beta version 25.10, installed the generative fill painting action with the image provided. All generated images are still unrelated to the original layer. Tried several methods none of them works.

Hi,

Wanted to inform that the feature with Generative Fill using an opacicty mask to generate an image into a different style as explained in different ways in this thread is broken in Photoshop (Beta) v.2510. You can still use this feature in the Photoshop v 25.9.

Seems to be an issue still. Not working in Photoshop Beta still (25.10.0). Does work in the full version.

Does anyone know if this bug has been fixed yet or if there's a work-around? The issue seems to persist in the latest update (25.10). Thanks!

Usually I open or create an image in Photoshop
Then I create a channel
then fill the foreground color  30- 40 %
click on the alpha channel and select it then go to the RGB and it allows me to generate painterly effects

The past couple of days that has stopped working entirely

What is this process called exactly and what happened?  How can i fix it?

Error with output of Generative Fill using quick mask mode

Adobe Photoshop (beta) Version: 25.10.0 20240512.m.2617 2b82010 arm64

Operating System: Mac OS 14.1.2

System architecture: Apple M2, HybridCPU(4:4)

The follow step result in error:

  1. Open your image in Photoshop Beta.
  2. Press the 'Q' key to enter Quick Mask mode.
  3. Go to Edit > Fill, select 'Color' from the Contents dropdown, and set the Brightness value to 30%. Click OK to apply a 30% gray fill layer.
  4. Press 'Q' again to exit Quick Mask mode. You should now see the 'Generative Fill' text box.
  5. Type "oil painting" in the Generative Fill text box and press Enter/Return.

All results seem to return a similar error image attached

It correctly performs the fuction on the full version :

Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.7.0 20240415.r.504 130b225 arm64

Operating System: Mac OS 14.1.2

Results see attached
