Photoshop Beta 27.9.0 (macOS) – PSD becomes unreadable after "Stamp Visible" (⌥⌘⇧E) and Save
Environment
* Photoshop Beta Version: 27.9.0
* Operating System: macOS
* File size: approximately 291 MB
Description
I created and edited a PSD normally in Photoshop Beta. There were no crashes and no Beta update between editing and saving.
The final action before saving was creating a merged visible layer using the shortcut ⌥⌘⇧E ("Stamp Visible" / "Merge Visible to New Layer").
Immediately afterwards I saved the document using File → Save.
Since then the PSD can no longer be opened.
Photoshop displays the message:
"The document could not be opened because it is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
I am using the same Photoshop Beta version that created the file. I do not have another Photoshop version installed.
Another PSD created on the same day opens without any problems.
Additional observations:
* The PSD file is approximately 291 MB.
* The file was saved directly to the local disk (not cloud storage).
* The PSD header appears to be valid.
* Third-party software (Photopea) also reports the file as corrupted.
* No temporary files or AutoRecover version are available.
Steps to reproduce
1. Open an existing PSD.
2. Create a new merged visible layer using ⌥⌘⇧E.
3. Save using File → Save.
4. Close the document.
5. Attempt to reopen it.
Expected result
The PSD should reopen normally.
Actual result
Photoshop reports that the PSD is not compatible with the current version, although it was created and saved with the same Beta version.
I have attached the original PSD file for investigation.
