P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

It happens to me in either the primary or secondary.

After the last Photoshop Update I am not able to edit Pictures from LR Classich in Photoshop, from the "Edit in" Option. It takes 30 Seconds to open a Error "File could not be edited, because Photoshop 2024 was not opening" and after that, the Picture is showing up in Photoshop. Another annoying Thing is, that LR is taking a full copy of the Picture, everytime i swap the Application. This is slowing down my Workflow a lot. I could help myself by installing an older Camera Raw version (14.5 instead of 15.4) and forcing to render the LR Changes in Lightroom, but LR is still doing Copies. I tried everything from cleaning LR and PS Preferences, to completely reinstall everyting from Scratch. The Behavior persists.

Hi there,

I have LR Classic and Photoshop 2023 newest versions on my iMAC with OS ventura. I also installed PS beta (unfortunately) and wanted to edit in PS beta. After setting the prefenences it di not work. I removed PS beta and reinstalled LR Classic and PS 2023 and check the preferences are set to Adobe PS 2023. It is. Then tried to edit photos in PS 2023, by clicking on "open layers in Photoshop". PS opens and that's it - nothing happens. This is now a real pain. Any suggestions or help and assistance out there to get wotking like it did before? Btw, I am not ineterested on work arounds or tricks. It workied before I installed and used PS beta, and I want it to work again like it did before.

Thanks and regards,

Marc

It's a known issue. The workaround around at present is to downgrade to an earlier version of Photoshop Beta using the Creative Cloud App. I've attached screenshot showing the steps involved.

Also. note that your post will likley be merged into the Photoshop Beta thread already dedicated to the issue.

Yes, reverting from Beta v25 to 24.7 restored the edit in functionality for switching from lightroom to editing in Photoshop beta. Adobe please fix.

After the last updates to Photoshop 24.7 / Photoshop beta 25.0 the "edit in photoshop" functionality is bugged. When trying to edit it in Photoshop this way, it takes several minutes and an error message in Lightroom, before the file opens in Photoshop.

I'm using a Windows 11 PC with Ryzen 3800x with 32GB of RAM and both windows and adobe software installed on a SSD. Lightroom is version 12.4, camera raw 15.4.1.

Using the command photoshop will open (if it's not open already) but the selected image in lightroom won't open. After waiting for several minutes (mote than 5), Lightroom will show an error dialogue:

"The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be started."

This is not correct, as Photoshop did indeed start. After confirming the error dialogue with ok, the image will immediately open in Photoshop.

This problem started the the latest updates to Photoshop (both 24.7 and 25 are affected). If I open Photoshop before the use "edit in" in Lightroom, the image will eventually open after the error message in Lightroom appears.
There were no changes done to my PC or windows (including no windows update) before the error occured. The only thing that happened were the updates to Photoshop and Photoshop beta.

Today there was an update of Photoshop Beta, still doesn´t work.
That´s pretty bad and I don´t want to step back to older versions.

Bonjour,

Claudio

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.

Lightoom Classic "Edit in Photoshop" does not open file in Photoshop 2023 (using Mac Os) but just opens Photoshop home page. This has been occuring for two weeks or so. Any help will be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem in Mac OS 13.4.1 Ventura and Lightroom 12.4 . "Edit in Photoshop 2023" and "Open as layers in Photoshop" do not work. Photoshop opens, but the RAW files in Lightroom do not open.
