P: Photoshop Crashes when interacting with Smart objects pasted from Illustrator Beta

I have had a number of crashes in Photoshop Beta where I have copied an object from a Illustrator Beta EPS file, and pasted into a photoshop beta document as a smart object. Following the creation of the Smart Object layer, when moving or resizing the smart object photoshop crashes with no messages and exits.

  1. Version of the app: 24.7 m2215
  2. Platform and OS version: Windows 10.0.19043 Build 19043
  3. Basic steps to reproduce the problem: See above
  4. Expected result and actual result: See Above

If you are still getting the crash, please help us with the detailed steps or a video.

Hi @ak Photography Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

@lucellent have you updated to the most recent Ps beta: Adobe Photoshop Version: 24.7.0 20230628.m.2223 0770f83 x64?

One thing we see:

Memory used by Photoshop: 85 % - it is suggested that this be set to 70%

Vendor name: NVIDIA
Driver date: 2023-04-08 000000.000000-000
Driver age: 3 months
Driver version: 31.0.15.3161 - you should update or try other drivers for your GPU, here is what one customer found out:

"
Download the Studio Driver from NVidia (I am using v531.61 which is not the latest but I know it is stable on my RTX3090)

When installing select Advanced Options - Clean Install. That will overwrite remnants of any old drivers.

Do not install GeForce Experience, that is for games. For Photoshop you don't need it."

Anybody else experiencing this? Installed at the beginning of the week and has crashed at least 10 times with no evident pattern as to what's causing it! Work lost every time as it does not revert to very recent state.
Is it worth persisting or has anyone found good features?

I'm aware this is a Beta release and those things are expected but this issue keeps getting more and more common. I'm on the latest version.

What happens is - I can visibly see the GPU getting disabled in Photoshop Beta (zooming for example becomes choppy) and after a few seconds the program just freezes and crashes.

The best part is that there doesn't seem to be any auto save feature or auto backup in app, I've never once had my work restored (like in the normal version of Photoshop).

So as much as this is my fault for using the beta for actual work, it's still very annoying losing hours of work due to this. I'm not sure how to prove or help the dev team look into it because there isn't a pattern to it, it happens randomly, even if I just have an image open without doing anything.

And yes, all my GPU drivers are also up to date.

Hi @lucellent we see you have a team account that is an edu, is it possible to contact your IT dept to see if they can weigh in on what might be the issue?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Unfotunately his does not fix anything. I've been crashing with the beta since the release. I have the latest and lasso tool with GenFill randomly crashes the whole system. Seems like it's going into some type of loop and just can't recover. Everything slows down to beyond a snail crawling in molasses pace or just completely freezes up. I've had two BSOD which I never exerienced before the Beta. I'm not pissy about it because it's in beta but when it's publically released this better not be an issue because it's a total workflow killer. The only saving grace is that (sometimes) there will be a recovered file. The BETAs of PS and Bridge are very buggy still on Windows 11.
