P: Shortcut/keys dont work in both Photoshop Beta (27.0.1)

Hi, since a few days when opening Photoshop, the keys don't work properly.

I can't use CTRL+N or +O for a new file or to open a File.

When I open an image by mouse, I can click on the tools and rename the layers for example.

But I can't use the keys to select the tools or to increase/decrease my brush. The Function keys still work so I can show/hide my layers/colors etc.

Anyone an idea? Already went to Preferences/Tools and turned on/off Spring-loaded Tool Shortcuts, that didn't do the trick. Also tried booting in Save mode and clearing all preferences to defaults..

Nothing works.

If I open Illustrator, the keys work.

Anyone an idea? This drives me crazy 😞

Thanks! Thought you forgot about me. Really looking forward to a solution. Haven't used Photoshop for almost a month now. Just not doable...

Thanks for still looking into this. Unfortunately your suggestion didn't work as well.

I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks for your patience in this @Johan @ Bazelmans as we all try to sort this out for you.

One last thing to try, in Preference/Technology Previews... UNCHECK Enable Modern User Interface... then restart the computer and let us know if that solves this.

Thanks,

I'm experiencing a similar issue, but it only occurs when the Crop tool is selected. Usually, Ctrl+A or B or S or almost anything quits working after I make a crop. If I select another tool, the shortcuts work again until I select and make a crop then the shortcuts quit working again.

I understand all you're saying, the Workspace is on Essentials (Default), never changed anything there.

What I noticed with changing shortcuts. When I want to change f.e. New (CTRL+N), I press my CTRL key and then number 1-9 on Numpad, it gives an error.

However if I press CTRL and then any letter or number on the normal part of my keyboard, I don't get any error. So it doesn't get any key-input at that moment.

I have a Logitech MX keyboard, I already tried another keyboard but same stuff happens. So it's not keyboard/hardware related. It's really like Photoshop doens't accept any keystrokes from my keyboard, until I create a layer and rename it, then I can type anything what I want. I'm no newby to computers and this is something I just can't wrap my head around. All the 'normal' and logical things I already tried, but this one is really a pain in the ....

Control + 1 is the keyboard shortcut for 100% view. If you don't use it, it's okay to reassign it, as Trevor said.

Control plus one letter or one number is mostly already used for something basic, so another option is to use multiple modifier keys. There are some shortcuts you might not want to lose.

If you want to see all the default shortcuts, look here:

Do a search for both Control and Ctrl, as both are used in this help file.

What workspace are you using?  If not already set to Essentials, switch to it, and reset Essentials.

The Motion workspace can be a pain regards shortcuts, for instance.  You mentioned Ctrl N, and that's one that does not work in the Motion workspace.

When you get things set how you want them, then be sure to save as a Cusatom workspace with these options.  It's a great way to save your custom shortcuts and toolbars.

I have been having issues with the beta version and window focus.  If the document window does not have focus, then shortcuts might not work.  This is too intermittant to be even close to be sure about, but AFAICT it only ever happens with the beta version.

What keyboard are you using?  Does it have a gaming function that lets you turn off a bunch of keys?

Are you using something like G-Hub, Synax, or i-Cue, and if yes, does it have app specific profiles?  If yes, then you are probably going to need seperate profiles for release and beta versions.

When Edit > Shortcuts says that a shortcut is already used for something else, you do know that you can ignore that?

Okay, I tried to change a shortcut. If I clear the shortcut CTRL+N for example, I tried CTRL+1, I get an error cause it's already taken. So the CTRL key and the Numpad is recognized. If I try CTRL+ (any letter) I get no respons whatsoever.

It looks like it disables all my letter-keys (and the numbers 1-0 above the letters).
